POPSSteven Chu Surprised to Learn He's in Charge of Oil Policy Yikes. As Obama focuses on things other than energy, notice gasoline prices inching higher. How long until they're back over $4? Better get building nuclear power plants and converting the federal vehicle fleet to use natural gas, Mr. President. Sure, you can talk about windmills and solar panels out on your speaking stops. But lets make sure that we're doing something serious about our energy needs, okay?

POPSEnergy: We're Still Vulnerable Indeed. We need more nuclear power plants. We need to begin NOW because of the time it takes to build them. Solar and wind are just a fantasy and can't provide enough reliable power.

POPSTurning Coal Into Gasoline Drilling for more oil may only be a temporary fix, but read down the article for the possibility of turning coal into synthetic fuel, as South Africa does.

POPSNew Nukular Powah Plants! President Bush pushing for the real alternative energy choice today: Nuclear energy. It's about time. Even most of the environmentalists are on board with this one. Sure, there will be the hangers-on to the misinformation and scare tactics about the "dangers" of nuclear energy. And there are issues to deal with, because no power source is "perfect." But if we're serious about reducing CO2 emissions and getting off of fossil fuels, this is the best way to go about it right now. Until the next thing comes along. Here here. Bravo.

POPS"Green" energy bill heading to Congress I don't think this one will make it by the Republicans. And with the demand for hybrid cars in the stratosphere, I can't imagine a low CAFE standard like this even making any difference whatsoever. But if we're growing tons of soybeans and corn, it's at the expense of other crops. And that has made an impact on cows that eat grains, Germans who drink beer (made from barley), and Mexicans who eat tortillas.

POPSThe Bulls are Back in Town Nothing like a little Thin Lizzy along with a nice PPI to fuel the bulls! While the PPI isn't the number the Fed is watching, it is just another indication that there really isn't much year over year inflation out there. Notice the 1.6% core inflation at the wholesale level year over year. CPI tomorrow!
