Drilling for more oil may only be a temporary fix, but read down the article for the possibility of turning coal into synthetic fuel, as South Africa does.

Good column by Dr. Jeremy Siegel on the impact of higher energy prices on the economy and stocks. I think he's spot on.

    New Nukular Powah Plants!

President Bush pushing for the real alternative energy choice today: Nuclear energy. It's about time. Even most of the environmentalists are on board with this one. Sure, there will be the hangers-on to the misinformation and scare tactics about the "dangers" of nuclear energy. And there are issues to deal with, because no power source is "perfect." But if we're serious about reducing CO2 emissions and getting off of fossil fuels, this is the best way to go about it right now. Until the next thing comes along. Here here. Bravo.

"Green" energy bill heading to Congress

I don't think this one will make it by the Republicans. And with the demand for hybrid cars in the stratosphere, I can't imagine a low CAFE standard like this even making any difference whatsoever. But if we're growing tons of soybeans and corn, it's at the expense of other crops. And that has made an impact on cows that eat grains, Germans who drink beer (made from barley), and Mexicans who eat tortillas.

The Bulls are Back in Town

Nothing like a little Thin Lizzy along with a nice PPI to fuel the bulls! While the PPI isn't the number the Fed is watching, it is just another indication that there really isn't much year over year inflation out there. Notice the 1.6% core inflation at the wholesale level year over year. CPI tomorrow!

    Inflation?

    by muckdog  6-7-2007
Great blog entry from Barry Ritholtz. Although, I do disagree with him that there is much inflation, as last week's CPI (including food and energy) was very mild. But the issue I want to raise here is the "FEAR" of inflation rather than inflation itself is what is scaring investors.
