So we might ask: Who, besides the corrupt Colombian military, has benefited from the $5.5 billion appropriated for Plan Colombia since 2000? The No. 1 beneficiaries in dollars are the U.S. companies that produce Blackhawk gunships and run the program of chemical warfare in Colombia’s coca fields. These include the companies providing the U.S. government with “services” to aid the Drug War.

POPSJapanese Scramble to Spin Shooting Story
The Japanese Coast Guard and the Japanese Fisheries Agency have stated to the media that the devices were flash grenades and that warning shots were fired. Only the Institute for Cetacean Research is denying that warning shots were fired and describing the flash grenades as “warning balls.” “I think the video tells the story,” said Sea Shepherd volunteer Laurens De Groot, a former police officer from Rotterdam. “I’m familiar with the devices thrown. They are the type of flash grenade that specially trained SWAT teams used to combat armed and dangerous criminals.” The Japanese claim that Captain Paul Watson is lying about being shot was expected. When Giles Lane and Benjamin Potts were tied to the mast of the Yusshin Maru No. 2, the Institute for Cetacean Research claimed it was a lie until the video images were released. POPSJapanese Whalers SHOOT Capt. Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd--He's saved by vest The Steve Irwin continues to track the Nisshin Maru west after it altered its northerly course. We have received verbal confirmation that the Australian Embassy has been advised by the Japanese that a crew member on board the Nisshin Maru fired “warning” shots. In addition to the lead bullet lodged in Captain Watson’s Kevlar vest, up to seven flash grenades were also hurled by armed Japanese Coast Guard Officers, injuring two other Steve Irwin crew members.

The much faster Steve Irwin has been running circles around the Nisshin Maru for over 1500 miles. The International Whaling Commission will be meeting in London tomorrow and our disruption of Japanese whaling activities will be on the agenda in the closed door sessions. The whalers are threatening to sue Sea Shepherd for their financial losses although it is not clear just as to what jurisdiction they intend to pursue their desperate claim. Although Japan has condemned Sea Shepherd’s interference they have not issued any charges and no actual crime has been committed. No injuries and no physical damages other than to their pride. They have no criminal or civil case, because the fact of the matter is that the Japanese whaling fleet is nothing more than poachers.
