POPSThe Ancient Mechanics and How They Thought He also majored in astronomy as an undergraduate, and about nine years ago, feeling science-deprived, he joined a multinational research endeavor called the Archimedes Project, based at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. The Archimedes team studies the history of mechanics, how people thought about simple machines like the lever, the wheel and axle, the balance, the pulley, the wedge and the screw and how they turned their thoughts into theories and principles. The textual record begins with “Mechanical Problems,” moves to Rome and then through the medieval Islamic world to the Renaissance. It ends, finally, with Newton, who described many of the basic laws of mechanics in the 18th century. By following the historical record, the Archimedes researchers have discovered that the evolution of physics — or, at least, mechanics — is based on an interplay between practice and theory.

POPSBush Exempts Navy from Environmental Law. A federal Judge in Los Angeles issued a preliminary injunction requiring a 12 mile no-sonar-zone. Bush does not have the power to overturn a court injunction, but that doesn't bother him, he's going to appeal in San Francisco. ( He knows more people there)

POPSTaser time on America's public lands With taser deaths on the rise. Its important to note that the forest service often are in charge of taking down homeless encampments and citing the homeless for camping or sleeping at night. Here in Santa Cruz, Ranger john Wallace has given more Sleep Crime tickets then all the City police officers combined. He now has a force of officers. They do not need Taser guns to do their job. The Police have killed people in jails, on the street and recently in the airport in Canada using a taser gun on a tired polish immigrant after he waited 10 hours with no translator after a 15 hour flight. These are OUR public lands, and OUR money being used to police them.

POPSMaine law on Prescription Data overturned The judgement claimed the first amendment right to free speech to justify the decision. The law had been challenged by companies that collect and sell Medical statistics and details. They claim it will improve treatment facilities, and make drugs cheaper ??? -(and be a fundamental contributor to their means of making a profit. The bottom line. Now you can't tell your doctor anything in confidence. How's that for free speech. It won't be long before the priests and doctors are wired. It would be nice if the Administration was subject to the same scrutiny.

POPSWriters guild files labor complaint Why would producers need writers. If rubbish can make money, all they need to produce is rubbish. Surely they have the ability to mount a production with their own talent. But there's so much money in syndicated marketing. Who needs a writer to sell a movie based video game, or the latest T-Shirt It seems quite clear that if the money is rolling in, quality is not a problem. Maybe someone will make a film of it (At least on You tube) Wait until Big Brother hits the Big Screen. That show writes it's self. And the prizes you can win. Just ring 1900..........

POPSPair learns finders not always keepers. First degree aggravated theft of lost property? Because the Authorities said it expected anyone finding something something of value to do something like check for an owner in classifieds or put out a classified ad themselves. So they find an object and an attempt to find an owner is described as a 'Universal Law' No it's a State law. While ignorance of the law is said to be no excuse, what about losing a ring. Isn't it the responsibility of the owner to be careful? These laws seem to be drafted for the sake of insurance companies, rather than the owners. Who would have a ring like that that wasn't insured. I'm sure it would have been mentioned if it wasn't.

POPSLobbying stalls generic drug legislation 38.8 Million spent lobbying to stop a bill to stop them paying generic producers, to delay the introduction of the generic drug. Who is making the law? The Congress or the Pharmaceutical companies? Who voted for the Pharmaceutical companies.? How would lobbyists spend 38.8 million?

POPSJudge Orders White House to hold Emails Bush Administration lawyers are arguing strongly against the decision. They protest the decision, of a federal judge, when it should be remembered that Bush owes his Presidency to a Supreme court decision, after the 2000 election. Maybe they want it to be taken to the Supreme Court. They know some people there.

POPSBlackwater mercenaries promised immunity Immunity is rarely give, for the reasons stated above, yet read what the article says below: "Three senior law enforcement officials said all the Blackwater bodyguards involved — both in the vehicle convoy and in at least two helicopters above — were given the legal protections as investigators from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security sought to find out what happened. The bureau is an arm of the State Department."

POPSMuslim says copies of Quran confiscated The question regards the exemption of prison officials from civil suit due to their status as 'Law Enforcement Officers.' I'm not sure there was any argument that they were confiscated, or that the officials had the 'right'

POPSN Carolina Med board to appeal executions ruling
Hippocratic Oath :"I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone. To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor nor give advice which may cause his death." Doctors today are not obliged to swear to the Hippocratic Oath. I wonder why they need a doctor, when the description of cruel and unusual punishment, and torture is so vague. From some reports I've heard the Doctors presence has been to record the time of death, and why exactly a means of execution failed to go as planned. I would have absolutely no faith in a Doctor that refused to take the Hippocratic oath, who has the hubris to believe they have the authority, and judgment to be takers of life as opposed to be sworn to save life. Clearly Authority considers life as a principle to be subject to it's demands. Surely a Monitor has the objectivity that would be missing in a 'doctor' complicit with an execution.
