POPSMatsui-san, 2000 (and one) hits Matsui-san hits his 2000th (dropped fly ball by Raul Ibanez in the sun; ruled error and then double!) and 2001st hit (clean single) in his pro career (Japan and MLB)... I saw this Mr. Kaneda at a sushi restaurant in Manhattan last night. Apparently, according to the people I was eating with, he was a lefty in his day, something like Sandy Koufax???

POPS#13 Mussina wins number 13, equaling his total wins for last season. A bit of trouble in the middle but then got himself together and won the game. By the way, Mr. DJ is hitting really well these days. Nice.

POPSTrade! The Yankees made their expected trade of the Phillies' outfieder Bobby Abreu and right-hander Cory Lidle for 4 prospects. So this is how it's going to be. Interesting. Although everyone is concentrating on Bobby's move, Cory Lidle is probably going to be the very very important #4 starter. It should be interesting to see how he adjusts.

POPSMr. Wang will ground you... OK, since Randy was a bummer today, Wang is looking like the #2 starter. This game was fast because, well, pretty much very little Devil Rays reached first base. Some good hitting and discipline at the plate for the Yankees led to more run support for Chien-Ming. When he wins 20 this year no one is going to be surprised.

POPSMike Mussina 2005 Career Highlights Some interesting facts on Mike Mussina, tomorrow's starter. Right now he is probably the number one starter because of his consistency, although Wang is a close second. Randy is kind of erratic so he is third in my mind. I don't know if this guy is underrated or overrated... He's never had a 20-win season or a perfect game, though he's been close. He has yet to win a World Series, along with other post-late 90s Yankees...
