The Seven Sweetest Fictional Theme Parks Pt 2 (#4 - #1)
    revenantdm
    by revenantdm  7-22-2008
Ah, we saved the best for last.... Yes, if you have not guessed what number one is by now I have this to say: Did you see ANY movies in the early to mid 90s when this one started the new Dinosaur craze? We even had to endure Brendan Fraser as Encino Man due to this one! By now I am sure you know Michael Crichton's Magnum Opus is number one. and no, it is NOT Congo! Enjoy!

    Asimov's 30 Laws of Robotics Par 1 (#4-11)
    revenantdm
    by revenantdm  7-16-2008    2
If you know Asimov's first Three Laws of Robotics then you either are a scifi fan or a Will Smith Super-Fan (it was a better than average movie and for Will a better than average Will Smith movie which says a lot as I am NOT a Will Smith Super-Fan, He just makes smart movies.) But if you are in the dark about the first 3 laws of robotics here they are: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. OK Now that we are all on the same web page, enjoy the wonderful witticisms...

Horror.net Horror Search And Directory Categories

    by revenantdm  7-14-2008
Do you prefer searching the web or browsing through directories? I like a little of both and I tell you what burns my butt every time is when a link is broke and the damn engine or directory just lets it slide. i don't have time to check out every link but i will say this: You will not find a more complete Horror Directory than here or on it's sister site, Horror:Search and Destroy... As for the black cuts, well the letters were white on black background so I will copy and paste those cuts in here: Horror.net Horror Search And Directory Categories Horror is the feeling of revulsion that usually occurs after something frightening is seen, heard, or otherwise experienced. It is the feeling one gets after coming to an awful realization or experiencing a hideous revelation. Horror has also been defined as a combination of terror and revulsion. We are horror... we are horror.net.

Just another set of weirdness that we human beings do to get attention. Marked Mature for the PETA ad as I will err on the side of caution... The Giant Prop ads remind me of the old TV shows and the movies of the 30s and 40s where they were very common... My favorite? The Mini Cooper ad... Priceless!

Rue Morgue is the last magazine that is in hard copy being printed today in the US. Their e-zine sight is ok but it holds nothing to the mag itself. To get your short fiction published here as a horror writer is a very wonderful occasion... One I hope to jave again one day!

I have always enjoyed Cecil Adams acerbic wit and ability to fearlessly face ANY questions put forward by his readers. Everything from "Where the H came from in Jesus H. Christ?" to "What happens to a body when it starts to decay?" has been asked of the Great Cece and he always comes through, even if the details are a bit too much for those with a queasy stomach!

OK, this is a little dry but I did find it stereotypical enough to clip... For example what do Leia Organa, Clark Kent, Arthur Pendragon, and pro wrestler Ric Flair all have in common??? All raised by people who are not their real family. No offense to Ric but that I could think of him as a real world example!

8 Fictional Characters Who Died Too Early
    revenantdm
    by revenantdm  6-11-2008
Well, I can not say I agree with the list all in total (Segal was not a big loss and a Video Game Character???) but overall, a well-reasoned list. A few key actors or roles I would have considered: Powers Booth in Red Dawn Orrie Main (Patrick Swazey) in North & South: Book III Laurence J. Fishbun in Deep Blue Christian Slater (no, not David Arquette) in 3000 Miles to Graceland Drew Barrymore in Scream Joker (jack Nicholson) not too early in the movie but in the series! George C. Scott in Taps. Morgan Freeman in The Sum of All Fears... Just a few off the top of my head and I am sure we all can think of others but this is a wonderful site for lists and this one (other than foe the inclusion of a video game) is a good list.

30 Upcoming Movie Sequels to say Why???
    revenantdm
    by revenantdm  6-7-2008    4
Maybe I am jaded from working on movies (and many of them went straight-to-video) but the on;y ones I see with positive potential outside the stars are National Treasure 3, The Descent 2 (read the Book -they may get it right for once!), Ice Age 3 (2 was great no matter what they say), Ghost Rider 2 (It's Cage but it is a damn good story too), The Untouchables: Capone Rising (a prequel to the 1987 hit) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (face it folks, Archeology and Pulp-Style cliffhangers will rock because of Indiana Jones!) My biggest disappointment on this list? Easily, People Under the Stairs 2. It was a horrible movie in 87 and I do not see how a sequel will help.

    by revenantdm  5-19-2008
Best site for a thorough definition of what is and what is not "alternate history," and a nice bibliography of key stories and novels that fit the criteria. Most interesting is the fact the author separates Alternate History from Secret and Hidden History which explore more conspiratorial theories and ramifications of History by design instead of a divergent history. Not just for fans of the genre but serious Historians have written essays on "What If' as key events in history may have gone askew,,,
