Fantastic to know that real rock still lives and can be carried out by some of the legends. Tragic to know that I was listening to it before it was legendary; it was just "now".

People think in different ways, have different talents, learn differently, and understand things in different ways. The education system is biased towards linguistic, thinking, and logical thinking to a lesser degree. People with strengths in other fields, could be taught in a way more suited to their talents

Novelty lighters a serious risk
richpalmer
by richpalmer  9-13-2007    2
Please look for information and resources to help us get these lighters banned. Other than for profit motive, one must wonder why these companies are marketing lighters to children. A lighter is a tool, not a toy. Yet, these are made to look much like the candy dispensers and children's toys found in fast-food chain restaurant children's meals!

Adults not as safe as they think
richpalmer
by richpalmer  9-8-2007
This survey from the Home Safety Council does not surprise me. I've taught safety in my community for more than 16 years. I typically find a sense of apathy and non-interest from people when I discuss safety in and around the home. My podcast show, HomeSafe 411, received such low response that I could not perceive value in spending time producing it. Unfortunate, but it does seem most of us are apathetic in our approach toward safety. it is easier to be entertained than to consume information from time to time that might help us stay more safe.

Popcorn lung patient inhaled fumes daily

Sounds familiar. I was treated for asthma for over 40 years. Turns out I don't have asthma, I have food allergies. I can see where popcorn steam and the particles in it could cause a person problems if they followed the same regime that Watson has.

A Better Way to Offer Help
richpalmer
by richpalmer  8-24-2007
This struck me as a very good way to become effective in offering assistance to others. I know that my own coping mechanisms to stress are not often effective. When someone can offer a suggestion instead of questioning my stressors, I'm likely to recover more quickly, be better equipped to assess the cause of the stress or to tackle the challenge at hand, or to allow someone else to provide their gracious assistance.
