POPSDying For Freedom - (Guinea) The Guinean Organisation for Defence of Human Rights put the toll at 157 people killed and more than 1,200 wounded. Guinea's interior ministry told the BBC that a total of 57 people died during the violence. Human rights groups say they have had reports of soldiers bayoneting people and women being stripped and raped in the streets during the protest. The opposition has accused the army of taking away some bodies to hide the scale of the violence. Capt Camara denied knowledge of sexual assaults, but admitted that some of his security forces had lost control. He said he was waiting to hear exactly how many people had died. "Frankly, it saddens me immensely. Frankly, it is very regrettable," he told French radio. Capt Camara said he had not yet decided whether to run for the presidency and was unsure what the correct move would be. There has been worldwide condemnation of the violence. Video at source.

POPSStop Wasting Your Vote on Democrats and Republicans (If You Truly Want Change) Voting is a very personal thing. What is right for me may not be right for you. It is something that we should all use our best judgment when doing. But it seems to me to be a waste to vote for a Republican or a Democrat and then expect anything to change for the better. There is an old adage that says something to the effect of if you keep trying the same failed solution to the same problem, you´ll get the same results. In fact, doing that is one definition of crazy. The time has come to shake up the establishment. A vote for a third, forth, fifth or sixth party candidate is not a wasted vote. I believe the majority of Americans in their hearts know this to be true, they just don´t seem to be able to let their brains act upon it. Hopefully, this can change.

POPSChoose Your Poison or Go 3rd Party? I think the decision should be easy, I cannot get why so many still will vote for one of the two in the clip, it just makes no sense whatsoever! I hear many say let's vote out of office anyone who voted yes to the $700b bailout, yet BOTH of these two voted yes and those same people are still considering voting one or the other INTO the highest office. POPSObama's Civilian National Security Force How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together? Now, maybe he was misquoted by the Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. I guess it's possible. If so, you would think he would want to set the record straight. Maybe he misspoke. That has certainly happened before. Again, why wouldn't the rest of my colleagues show some curiosity about such a major and, frankly, bone-chilling proposition? Are we talking about creating a police state here? The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn't count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion. Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?

POPSThe Big Promise of Elections '08 = More War! More Debt! Both McCain and Obama have made it clear, (as Obama has stated) "War with Iran is not off the table." But if we listen, both have also spoken about going into Pakistan, about "protecting Israel" no matter the cost, and even if it involves military action. So what the elections have come down to, on both the left and the right, is that there is no anti-war candidate left, nor is there one who seems to have any ideas that will rescue the economy and recover the increasing deficit.

There is a petition circulating. The petition is addressed to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and all U.S. military personnel. It urges them to defy orders to attack Iran. It points out that a pre-emptive war with Iran is a war crime under international law. It reminds military personnel of the statute in the Army Field Manual 27-10, Section 609, and Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 92, that states: “A general order or regulation is lawful unless it is contrary to the Constitution, the law of the United States. ...”The petition notes that any provision of an international treaty ratified by the United States becomes the law of the United States. The United States is a party and signatory to the United Nations Charter, of which Article II, Section 4, states, “All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. ...” Iran has not attacked the United States.

Consider this partial list of government activities: a) torturing children for lying; b) utilizing a prison designed & staffed specifically to suck all life and hope out of the inmates c) placing citizens in that prison without a hearing; d) allows the death penalty without a trial e) allowing the powerful, rich or famous to control policy and practice; f) selective prosecution (the powerful go unpunished and the unpopular face trumped-up charges); g) conducting criminal trials without independent defense counsel; h) using truth serum to force confessions; i) maintaining constant surveillance over all citizens; j) allowing no elections whatsoever and no democratic lawmaking process; k) controlling the press.
