POPSWhy I Believe Bush Must Go At 85 years old, I guess there is a need to tell the truth, and try to make this world a better place...... Thanks George!......McGovern that is!

POPSSettlement in anti-Bush T-shirt case I always thought that the right to protest was not challenged in this country. I guess I was a little naive on this point. Amazing how you can just assume that you have rights in a free America......then, something comes along that makes you realize not to let your guard down, or you might find yourself in an America that you don't recognize anymore. Good thing we got the ACLU to counteract the bullies who want control over the masses....at any cost......including the degradation of the U.S. Constitution. Bush and the boys have been doing this sort of thing for the past seven years.

POPSUnchecked and Unbalanced From the book review: "George W. Bush "commuted" Scooter Libby's conviction to keep himself and Cheney from being impeached and possibly imprisoned. If Congress continues to avoid holding authoritarian, law-breaking, monarchal Republicans accountable, our Constitution and existence as a democracy may pass the point of no return. It may have passed that point already."

POPSAbraham Lincoln...February 15, 1848 Seems like, as this great nation ages, we get dumber and dumber. Is it because we are getting further and further away from the days of oppression from those "Kings" that Abe is talking about in this letter to his law partner.

POPSFalwell may be gone, but "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." ~ John Adams October 11, 1798 "In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own. It is easier to acquire wealth and power by this combination than by deserving them, and to effect this, they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purposes." ~ Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G Spafford March 17, 1814

POPSA little-noticed provision in the Patriot Act "American justice system would be seriously damaged if United States attorneys were stripped of their independence." Here they go again! Stack the deck in favor of the Pres, and his cohorts. Is a shameful act of self serving, and disregard for justice. The phrase in the constitution that says "pursuit of happiness" really was meant (in language of that day) to say the ability to pursue truth and justice.....not so much just vague "happiness". Sure is interesting how Truth and Justice has been trampled on by this administration. Anything goes for them, as long as the final result is what they want. To hell with truth and justice!....is their motto......we just need to win! Karl Rove is a master at that game!

POPSRepublicans must be more like Ike I was around, but at a young age, when the "I like Ike" buttons could be seen on peoples shirts and coats. He definitely had an understanding of war that has completely eluded this gang of chickenhawks!

POPSSome more about Molly Ivins I like this statement about the ACLU ""The premise is easily understood: If the government can take away one person's rights, it can take away everyone's."

POPS"President" = "Commander-in-Chief"? The militarization of US political culture Historian Garry Wills on the use of the phrase "commander-in-chief" to refer to the US President. He reminds us that the Constitution designates the POTUS as "commander in chief of the U.S. Army and Navy" -- not of civilians -- and suggests that the prevalent use of military language to refer to civilian political institutions is indicative of a wider and more problematic trend.

POPSWe Are At War!...and don't you forget it!....clipable A summation of Bush's "State Of The Union" address that gives a well thought out critique of the deeper meaning of his words and statements. One thing that I didn't notice was his refusal to use the word "Democratic" instead of "Democrat"...may sound trivial, but this is exactly how this administration operates.

POPSGonzales Questions Habeas Corpus Read the rest of this article at http://www.consortiumnews.com/2007/011807.html Mr. Gonzales displays a frightening lack of common sense and honesty by making this claim. Even Arlen Specter, a Senator from his side of the aisle, so to speak, became flustered with disbelief when he came up with this response concerning habeas. It is obvious this attorney general is blinded by his own ideology to the point of trampling on the rights of us citizens whenever the agenda of he and his neo-con brethren dictate it must.

POPSThe Mother of all Presidential Libraries The best democracy money can buy! The best legacy money can buy! Money (the paint brush), and Power (the paint)......with this combination you can whitewash any truth, or any reality! It's kind of disgusting, but there is one consolation; what are they going to put in the library....pictures of Katrina victums.....audio and video of the so-called-war in Iraq........a replica of the new constitution with holes where our civil rights used to be........torture photos.......a big mug shot of Dick Cheney using his best "darth vadar" look-alike scrowl.......a wall full of "bushisms".......and Donald Rumsfield's most infamous line in describing the debacle of the aftermath sacking of Bagdad ("In a democracy people are free to do whatever they want......stuff happens.....etc.

POPSThe Imperial Presidency This was originally an editorial in the NYTimes on Jan 7,2007. It sums up all the wild transgressions of the Bush administration for the past 6 years. How they were able to get away with it is particularly disturbing
