Fear and Loathing in Middle America
    schreibe
    by schreibe  8-4-2007
More: Lucky for us, Bageant didn't hop on the next plane back west, and didn't chalk it all up to a terrible, misconstrued nostalgia. Instead, he stuck to his guns -- literally -- and tried to understand why people in his part of the country, people he genuinely loves despite his utter detestation of their politics, are so dyed-in-the-wool conservative that it'd take the Apocalypse to prize them away from supporting George W. Bush. "In the days before the spine of the labor movement was crushed, back when you could be a gun owner and a liberal without any conflict, members of the political left supported these workers, stood on the lines taking beatings at the plant gates alongside them," he argues. "Now there is practically no labor movement, and large numbers on the left are comfortably ensconced in the true middle class... From that vantage point, liberals currently view working whites as angry, warmongering bigots, happy pawns of the American empire -- which begs the questions

How to Save the Middle Class from Extinction

Krugman is correct in saying that this is not the middle class society that I grew up in! Maybe that's why so few people care much about "the two income family" just treading water to stay afloat.......the young families today don't have anything to compare their plight to.......they never lived in a society where one person could actually make enough money to keep his family in the necessities of life......those days are gone!

I think I read in that new bankruptcy law that the banks are allowed to "knee-cap" you if you don't make the payments. Also, they are now allowed to charge as much interest as they want.......wait a minute!......they have been allowed to do that all along now!.......even without the new law. Oh well!.....just as long as we get rid of all these deadbeats! Maybe they will die or something.......

    How can America be America

My son served in the Peace Corps, and now works for the Peace Corps. He served in Panama for two years. His pay and living expenses was about $300 per month. I was unable to help him out financially, so he made it on his own for the most part. He now works for Peace Corps headquarters in Washington D.C., and has been in many different countries in the past several years.....some of which I can even pronounce the names, never mind understanding the geography. I know that his experiences has made him a better American Citizen, and a better human being. I am one proud father! If you are interested in the places he has been and the people and cultures he has experienced, go to www.webshots.com .....the screen name is "schreibe" the pictures are availabe for public view. The number of "views" average about 500 per week. Or, just look up a county ie "Suraname"
