POPSPhilippe Starck: Why design? Legendary designer Philippe Starck -- with no pretty slides behind him -- spends 18 minutes reaching for the very roots of the question "Why design?" Along the way he drops brilliant insights into the human condition; listen carefully for one perfectly crystallized mantra for all of us, genius or not. Yet all this deep thought, he cheerfully admits, is to aid in the design of a better toothbrush

POPSThe Brand Name Game Between May and June, New York branding consultancy Tipping Sprung conducted a survey (in conjunction with Brandweek) to learn what new brand names are hitting the mark. POPSCereality: The Made-To-Order Cereal Restaurant! If you haven't heard of this chain yet, it has to be seen to be believed. Every major cereal is represented, every type of milk, the servers behind the bar are dressed in pajama uniforms (really), and they developed their own leak-proof cartons to eat from. You can choose toppings like fresh fruit, but why not indulge the sweet tooth your mom denied you for so long as a child and go for the chocolate chips, malt balls, or pop-rocks. (Ugh!) They'll even take it one step further and blend the whole deal together into a pre-digested slurpie. (Slurry? :) ) (Secretly jealous my college didn't have one of these on campus.)
