Philippe Starck: Why design?
shayayal
by shayayal  12-5-2007
Legendary designer Philippe Starck -- with no pretty slides behind him -- spends 18 minutes reaching for the very roots of the question "Why design?" Along the way he drops brilliant insights into the human condition; listen carefully for one perfectly crystallized mantra for all of us, genius or not. Yet all this deep thought, he cheerfully admits, is to aid in the design of a better toothbrush

trendagitator
by trendagitator  11-7-2007    2
Amid all the talk about user created content, the ecommerce potential of social networking sites and why relationships on Facebook are worth $15B, one thing is clear. Marketing gurus are salivating at the potential of monetizing where you and your friends go, shop and interact online. Newly announced Facebooks Ads and Facebook Beacon make consumers more central to this opportunity than ever before.

The Brand Name Game
shayayal
by shayayal  7-21-2007
Between May and June, New York branding consultancy Tipping Sprung conducted a survey (in conjunction with Brandweek) to learn what new brand names are hitting the mark. More than 1,300 marketing professionals and industry observers were asked to pick the "most memorable, appropriate, or distinctive" new brand name from a list of five to seven choices. The 11 quirky categories included "Most Consumer-Friendly Drug Name" and "Worst Fragrance Name." (Disclosure: This writer participated in the survey.)

Cereality: The Made-To-Order Cereal Restaurant!
Kore7
by Kore7  4-24-2006    6
If you haven't heard of this chain yet, it has to be seen to be believed. Every major cereal is represented, every type of milk, the servers behind the bar are dressed in pajama uniforms (really), and they developed their own leak-proof cartons to eat from. You can choose toppings like fresh fruit, but why not indulge the sweet tooth your mom denied you for so long as a child and go for the chocolate chips, malt balls, or pop-rocks. (Ugh!) They'll even take it one step further and blend the whole deal together into a pre-digested slurpie. (Slurry? :) ) (Secretly jealous my college didn't have one of these on campus.)
