Downer plays down climate change rift with Malaysia

    by tabsey  9-4-2007
Downer is our Foreign Minister who refuses to believe his ideas are not perfect. He is also pushing the Bush line on everything. A proper lackie. Australia has arrogantly set itself to be the leader and decision maker for all in this area. It is what business has told them to do. There will be a push on nuclear energy before the meeting finishes. When Downer says fruitful, he means business connections have been set up for his cronies.

Let them work off their excess energy and weight doing social work and cleaning up their own nation's messes...

BALI: People Power Confronts Climate Change
    linden_marie

more...... The world is used to letting the US have its way, but not this time. The assembled delegations let loose a chorus of boos. Nation after nation took the floor and sounded the chords of outrage. Just like hundreds of thousands of Avaaz members told them to do, our leaders stood firm. Faced with this united front, the American representative asked to take the floor once more, and said simply, "The United States will join the consensus."

    Togo
    by Togo  9-2-2007    1
Lets hope that the summit focuses on the key "issues such as poverty, security and climate change" in the Pacific region and protesters voice their opinions peacefully. It is expected the majority of protesters will be high school students concerned about globilisation. "The Stop Bush Coalition" is expected to draw the biggest numbers, an estimated 10,000 people.

Climate change discussed at APEC meeting
    Toogoo
    by Toogoo  9-6-2007
APEC is is the most important international meeting to date for achieving a commitment from the developed and developing countries to take steps toward reducing CO2 emissions. Meanwhile Greenpeace claims the aspirational targets for reducing emissions as "code for a political stunt". Australia lacks the credentials to deal with the issue because it still refuses to sign the Kyoto Protocol. The Government has no real concern for the environment, and has been advised that energy efficiency and clean coal are crucial to fighting climate change. The main agenda -- to sell more coal.
