I cannot imagine that this guy won't stand again against Australians, the rivalry we have loved for so many years. He is the guy who loved pressure and so many times like Steve Waugh, fought lone battles for West Indies. But above of all, he was such a great joy to watch. Thank you Brian Lara for being such a great great Player.

POPSAustralia back to Number 1 Australia has been and will remain number 1 cricket team in the world for few more years atleast. For a short duration, SA took first spot but that was nothing to do with their own performance but due to Australia's defeat in recent tri-series against England. Australia is way ahead of other teams in the world. SA's charge to number 1 spot was because of some number games that ICC has. The same thing applies to Ricky ponting as a batsman. How can Kevin Peterson beat Ponting to become number 1. Ricky is the greatest match winner I have seen for many years now. He is the best.

POPSCome on Sanath! Jayasuriya is just second to Sachin in number of centuries. He now has 25 of them. But more importantly he steered Lanka to a comprehensive victory over hosts west indies. He is the man to watch for. If Sri lanka has to reach finals and win it, this guy has to go on. I wish him good luck

POPSBad news continue to flow from West Indies - Inzi retires Its been a day of bad news from the world cup. Earlier Bob Woolmers death had shocked the world and then came the news that Inzi is saying good bye to One day cricket.Ironically, It was the same platform (1992 world cup in Australia) where he emerged as a star for pakistani cricket, steering them to a WC win. He made his debut there. What a sad end to such an illustrious career.

POPSIndia down and out - Shocked by Bangladesh. Its a another shocker and this time for India. Bangladesh crushed (I can say that) India in the first game of the group. All I can say is India played poor cricket and were all over the place. I am really really disappointed. Its a sad day for Indian supporters. I am off for some beers!

POPSAussies crushed Scotland As expected Australia managed an easy win over Scotland. Ponting scored his 4th WC century and was the backbone of the innings. Hussey's form is a little bit of concern but I am sure he will defy all the odds. McGrath as always so effective and dangerous. I am going to track his wicket tally.

POPSTwo Dwayne's enough for Pakistan Good match to begin with. West Indies somewhat showed that they have home advantage. Bowling magnificantly to defend a meager total of 241. Highlight of the match was the performances from Dwayne Bravo and Dwayne Smith. Both of them shared 6 wickets and quick fire 40 odd runs to give that little edge over Pakistan. Pakistan on the other hand played over cautiously and in the end had to chase with a huge asking rate. Parternership between Inzy and Yousouf proved wa waste. Well they have a lot to think about but they are certain to reach round 2 where actually things get hot. The match however proved great to the local crowd. Its always good for the tournament if the local team advances.

POPSPonting furious on Gavaskar's remarks Ponting reminded India of its performance in recent past and more than that Gavaskar's game and his one off incident of "mis-behavior" on the field. Not only this but much more. Well Ricky is one of my favorite players but here I would disagree with him and probably take a strong exception of what he said for Team India and Gavaskar. POPSThanks guys! Oh Boy! I am sad today. I cannot be happy, with both these wonderful folks not to be seen on the cricket ground (McGrath for Tests). I have seen full days of test match cricket with them bowling over after over. Cannot describe the void inside me. I have been in US for 3-4 years now and haven't got much chance to watch cricket. This makes me even more sad because I know I have missed some of the greatest performances these guys delivered. I am waiting for their Auto biographies. Those will be my greatest belongings. I already have "Out of my comfort zone" - by Steve Waugh. I want to thank you guys. You both are my heros.

POPSSachin - far from being perfect. We so much wanted a century from Sachin in the first innings of final test. A 64 is by no means his standard. Sachin is nearing his end now and I am sure, every body who loves him, wants him to retire on a high note. Yes just like Warne or McGrath. Though Sachin is not in his peak today, he definitely is in their league, league of great players. We are always with you Sachin.

POPSShane past 1000 It all began here, years ago, against India (I think). Sydney, being the best for spinners, had high hopes of a warne magic that day. But he ended up getting only 1 wicket in the entire test match. Who would have thought that Warne will become a legend at they very same ground. If warne remains wicket less in the second innings, it will be some sort of history or a record of some sort. For warne, I don't think it matters.

POPSAustralia is loosing too many stars Can't beleive that australia is loosing so many stars at the same time. I think Australians are setting standards in the game that are hard to achieve. Both on and off the field. The whole retirement season is an example of an off field standard. These players and coaches are happy to leave the game when they are in prime form. They don't want to be pushed aside by bunch of selectors of people themselves. Its their self respect which they want to save at the end and not just being the record holders (some of them are unthinkable to break). I seriously doubt if players of any other team (exception is Brian Lara) can follow the same.

POPSLanger Retires Nice Guy. Always fought for the glory in a star studded Aussie lineup. Didn't have a great technique but had true determination to score runs. A good opener.
