    Australia back to Number 1
    techmine
    by techmine  4-9-2007    1
Australia has been and will remain number 1 cricket team in the world for few more years atleast. For a short duration, SA took first spot but that was nothing to do with their own performance but due to Australia's defeat in recent tri-series against England. Australia is way ahead of other teams in the world. SA's charge to number 1 spot was because of some number games that ICC has. The same thing applies to Ricky ponting as a batsman. How can Kevin Peterson beat Ponting to become number 1. Ricky is the greatest match winner I have seen for many years now. He is the best.

Unfortunately he couldn't win the match for Sri Lanka. Amazing performance. Aussies call it a double hat-trick (4 wickets in 4 balls).

The show goes on - First hat-trick of the world cup
    techmine
    by techmine  3-28-2007
Even without highly rated Asian teams like Pakistan and India, the World Cup is still a great tournament to watch. Just now I witnessed an almost disaster for South Africa. They lost 4 wickets in 4 balls which includes a hat-trick by Malinga. All the tension came to an end when number 10 batsman miscued a shot for a 4 and helped SA to win the match. Now that is why Mr. Smith, we call you guys - chokers. You almost did!

Bad news continue to flow from West Indies - Inzi retires
    techmine
    by techmine  3-18-2007
Its been a day of bad news from the world cup. Earlier Bob Woolmers death had shocked the world and then came the news that Inzi is saying good bye to One day cricket.Ironically, It was the same platform (1992 world cup in Australia) where he emerged as a star for pakistani cricket, steering them to a WC win. He made his debut there. What a sad end to such an illustrious career.

    Bob Woolmer died in hotel

Its a sad development in a world cup that has already become so exciting in its first week itself. Woolmer became famous after he coached South Africa to near glory. He was one of the most respected coach in the world. This is really a loss to the world that came as a shock

India down and out - Shocked by Bangladesh.

    by techmine  3-17-2007    1
Its a another shocker and this time for India. Bangladesh crushed (I can say that) India in the first game of the group. All I can say is India played poor cricket and were all over the place. I am really really disappointed. Its a sad day for Indian supporters. I am off for some beers!

Herschelle Gibbs hit 6 sixes in an over.

Fantastic! Gibbs hit 6 sixes in one over. No one has done it ever in an ODI. I am delighted to see SA's game. They have made it clear their intentions in this WC. I would cheer for them. They are one of my favorites. Also Boucher scored fastest half-century of the World Cup. And SA scored 18 sixes, which is maximum for any ODI

Irish forced a tie on Zimbabwe
    techmine
    by techmine  3-15-2007
This is the first real shocker in the world cup. Zimbabwe could not score a single of the last ball. This was a real dent on Zimbabwe's image who once defeated India in 1999 World cup. But this zimbabwe team is nothing compared to the team in 1999. I can't forget Flower brothers, Heath streak and company. I think Irish team has a good future with the way they have played and specially when they have such great fans.

    Aussies crushed Scotland

    by techmine  3-14-2007    1
As expected Australia managed an easy win over Scotland. Ponting scored his 4th WC century and was the backbone of the innings. Hussey's form is a little bit of concern but I am sure he will defy all the odds. McGrath as always so effective and dangerous. I am going to track his wicket tally.

    Shocker for NewZealand
    techmine
    by techmine  3-7-2007    2
This is really a shocker for New Zealand. They are one of the teams in my list of title contenders. NZ can stay focused by considering this to be just a warm up match but they are early alarm bells. In a way, push like this at an early stage of the tournament is good to motivate the team. Same thing happened to India in the last world cup but they reached the finals in the end. Mind you, bangladesh is in hands of a very gritty aussie coach, dave watmore. He led SL to a WC victory and is a great tactician. Bangladesh may well be the dark horse of WC'2007. We will wait and see. Boy this world cup is already steaming hot!!

McGrath to start with the new ball.

I love to see McGrath take on the new ball. There is no other way to terrify opposition. I am not sure about Aussie tactics by him bowling as first change. He is the best when he bowls at opposition openers.

Big Blow to Pakistan WC campaign.

This is a big blow to Pakistan. Razzaq is undoubtedly the best allrounder Pakistan has. The team has some real issues now. With doping controversy already gripping the team, this one is a disaster.

Finest New Zealand player after Chris Cairns and Richard Hadlee. Loved his batting and specially his fastest double century. Will miss him very much. His retirement adds to the void already created by annoucements from Shane Warne and Glen McGrath.

    Chappel to stay..

    by techmine  1-12-2007
I like the move. Players should be held responsible for poor performance and not the coach. Although I don't like chappel's over experimentation but I don't want to spare the players either. Regardless, does Chappel want to stay??

Australia is loosing too many stars
    techmine
    by techmine  1-1-2007
Can't beleive that australia is loosing so many stars at the same time. I think Australians are setting standards in the game that are hard to achieve. Both on and off the field. The whole retirement season is an example of an off field standard. These players and coaches are happy to leave the game when they are in prime form. They don't want to be pushed aside by bunch of selectors of people themselves. Its their self respect which they want to save at the end and not just being the record holders (some of them are unthinkable to break). I seriously doubt if players of any other team (exception is Brian Lara) can follow the same.
