POPSGenetically Modified Humans Not likely, you say. Really. Just a few years ago, we didn’t think that genetically modified animals would be an issue. Now it is. When the genetically modified baby boom starts coming into play, don’t you think the designers will want a patent on the genes? And do you think they will be any less willing to enforce their patent on those genes than Monsanto is on farmers who use the company’s patented technology for crops? Let’s face it. We could be looking at a future of patented designer humans. If a person is found to have the patented gene, that person could be indebted for life to the patent holder – born to pay from the moment of conception. This is a multinational corporate wet dream. And last but certainly not least, we have to ask ourselves – do we really want genetically modified humans in our midst?

POPSReport Shows Greater Peril for World's Threatened Animals and Plants The newest report also includes assessments of 845 species of corals. Already more than a quarter are considered threatened, with climate change added to the list of threats they face. Still, IUCN cautions that the health of marine life could be worse than expected, as relatively little is known about biodiversity in the oceans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIJHaQ8EGn0

POPSCoke Cruelty Coca-Cola likes to claim it is "The Real Thing." The only thing real is that Coke is giving animal abusers money, supporting cruelty, and showing itself to be a corporation that establishes progressive policies for public relations purposes only.

POPSFamilies Abandon Pets To Save Cash It angers me that people can abandon an animal as if it were a just another consumer item. If people can't or won't take proper care of their pets, they can at least make sure to give them to a shelter, so they can have a chance of getting re-homed. Times are hard for everyone. There's absolutely no need and no excuse, to make them unbearably hard for the poor animals too, by just dumping them on the streets. How cruel humans can be. :(.

POPSMan-Made Noise in World's Seas Threatens Wildlife It added that sound produced by air guns used for seismic surveys in oil exploration can travel more than 3,000 km (1,864 miles) from their source. Experts say there are also concerns that rising levels of carbon dioxide are pushing water acidity levels up and contributing to noisier oceans, because when acidity rises, water absorbs less noise.

POPSWho's a Clever Boy? In another recent study, Dr Friederike Range, of the University of Vienna’s neurobiology department, said dogs felt jealous when unfairly treated compared with other dogs. Dr Range, who's results will be published tomorrow, said: 'Dogs show a strong aversion to inequity'.

POPSStand Against Puppy-Killing Soldiers There's a video at the source, but I can't watch it myself. Animals have even fewer hopes and rights than the rest of us and often bear the brunt of people's aggression and frustration and plain old cruel malevolence. Please sign. :( The true measure of a man, is how he treats someone, who he has absolutely no use for.

POPSKangaroo Abuser Cites Man's 'Dominion' A reward has been offered if anyone knows anything about Tyson's whereabouts. As for the laws, the defense and the cruelty itself? Where to begin? Zoos in Canada only have regulations for native animals such as bears or coyotes. Keepers have no rules for exotic animals, including lions, tigers or kangaroos. "McElroy was brought to court for her manner with native animals and unfortunately it has nothing to do with Tyson's well-being," she said.

POPSPardon All of the Turkeys If not pardon them, then at least pity them. I don't expect everyone to want to give up their Thanksgiving turkey, but please buy conscientiously. Please don't support the inhumane producers who treat the animals with such a cruelty, you would not believe. (Videos at the site for those who can stomach it.) Get a bird that has lived a good life, so you can enjoy your dinner with a good conscience. Happy Thanksgiving, folks. :)

POPSWhat Cats Know About War Read the rest at the source. In a place where we could do little else... the tally became a measure of one small thing we could do to favour life over death. Animals are often forgotten victims of war and disasters. Hats off to all who will spare a thought for the poor animals who get caught up in the miseries of mankind too. Good luck Scooter and family! .:)

POPSDo Animals Go To Heaven? Heaven just would not fit the definition of heaven if my dearly beloved departed pets were not there to greet me one day if and when I ever get there myself. If animals don't go to heaven, then you may just as well send me to hell, so I at least can party on with all my friends. *LOL* A man brings food to a dog and the dog thinks: "He must be a God!" A man brings food to a cat and the cat thinks: " I must be a God!"

POPSWhy Aren't Humans Furry? ALL my babies are very furry and I think they are the most beautiful kids in the whole wide world! (Should I mention, they are all cats?) ;)

POPSTaking Action For Animals. Farm animals often 'live' under such cruel and inhumane conditions, that it boggles the mind. For all those who care about their plight, here's a way to get smart on the issues. Unfortunately, farm animals are not *cute and cuddly* or good PR material like the koala, the tiger or the chimpanzee, so they are often forgotten and they suffer by the millions. If nothing else, think conscientiously when you shop. Where did those eggs come from? Does the chicken you bought have bruises or broken bones? How was the life of that veal steak, before it became a veal steak? Think and act and shop accordingly. This is about compassion. Please don't forget about these poor animals. And don't buy fur either!! (please) .;)

POPSPennsylvania Court Finds Animal Abuse Is Legal You tell me, if you don't think this constitutes animal abuse?!? I'm shocked and horrified at the "not-guilty" verdict. It's simply horrendous! A sickening verdict. Grrrr..... # birds overcrowded in wire cages so small, they cannot spread their wings, # hens left to suffer from untreated illnesses or injuries, # birds with their wings, legs, or feet entangled in the wires of cages, unable to access food or water, # injured or dying birds removed from their cages and left in the aisles without access to food or water, # birds impaled on the wires of the cages with many found already dead as a result of the painful immobilization, and # hens living in cages amongst decomposing bodies of other birds. “If these animals had been dogs or cats, there’s little doubt this case would have resulted in a conviction. There is a clear double standard here, and that hypocrisy is troubling.”

POPSBan The Plastic Bag Bangladesh slapped an outright ban on all polythene bags in 2002 after they were found to have been the main culprit during the 1988 and 1998 floods that submerged two-thirds of the country. Discarded bags had choked the country's drainage systems. Nylon fishing nets, fishing line, bags, 6-pack rings etc, kill hundreds of thousands of animals every year and will continue to do so for hundreds, if not thousands of years to come. Horrible, panicked and painful deaths by drowning, suffocation or internal damage. If Bangladesh can ban the plastic bag and get by, surely so could we!

POPSSorry Again I don't like any kind of discrimination. Pitbulls, rottweilers etc are not the problem, humans are. If you can stomach it, watch this video. Beware! Graphic images, but WATCH it anyway! Do not turn away from what goes on and the suffering millions of animals must endure every day. Day after day after day. Who is the real killer? Working in animal welfare, I have seen such horrific cruelty from the hand of man, that it simply defies description. I can guarantee you, that the real and overwhelming problem we face is not some breed, but mankind's vicious and brutal treatment of our fellow creatures on this earth, including each other. "Punish the deed, not the breed." Please help fight and punish the real killer....and it is not the dogs! "The greatness of a nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it treats it's animals." -- Mahatma Gandhi

POPSChickens Are People Too! *LOL* I've had lots of pet chickens. My last one, Molly was a fiery little "Red Dwarf" with an awesome attitude! She was queen of the roost even over all the cats. Aah, I loved that funny hen. *LOL* Anyway! I'm not a vegan. I believe chickens are "meant" to be eaten by us, just as we one day will be food for others, be it worms or Azaleas. (or White Pointers, if you're an Aussie. Ha ha!) The point is respect. Treat animals with dignity and respect and be thankful for the nourishment they provide. We're all just part of the food chain. Don't waste or squander, but be thankful for the food you are lucky to have. (Not all are as lucky as us, to be able to eat every day.) Check out all the cool comments from fellow clippers on the clip about plants having feelings , for some really cool thoughts on consciousness and awareness and interconnectedness. Mind-expanding! Molly died of old age, by the way...

POPSRoadkill Art?? Ahem...I am all for the freedom of expression, but what exactly is it, the "artist" is trying to convey here? I know art is supposed to evoke a reaction or an emotion (even bad ones) but this is taking it just a little too far, I reckon.

POPSDo Plants Have Feelings? If plants do have some sort of "feelings", what are all the vegans and vegetarians going to do? After all, you can't live on love alone... ;)
