POPSPower Shifts in Plan for Capital Calamity Supporters of the plan inside the Bush White House, including Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, saw the erratic response to the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 as a mandate for streamlining an emergency response process they considered clunky because it involved too many agencies.

POPSThe Suppressed Fact: Deaths by U.S. Torture The record could not be clearer regarding the fact that we caused numerous detainee deaths, many of which have gone completely uninvestigated and thus unpunished. Instead, the media and political class have misleadingly caused the debate to consist of the myth that these tactics were limited and confined. We should never, as a policy, maltreat people under our control, detainees. We tortured people unmercifully. We probably murdered dozens of them during the course of that, both the armed forces and the C.I.A.

POPSGod Comes Cheap These Days For eight years, Christian conservatives had "Lord Bush." Now, liberals have "Lord Obama." Seems to me that gods come pretty cheap these days. As a non-American, this is very much the way it seems. Nothing really matters, but beating the other side. Left vs right feuding, instead of right vs wrong. So much time wasted fighting each other, instead of fighting for your supposed values and principles Is this really what America is all about? Think about it.

POPSAre the Iranian Election Protests Another US Orchestrated ‘Color Revolution’? "Neoconservative Kenneth Timmerman wrote the day before the election that “there’s talk of a ‘green revolution’ in Tehran.” How would Timmerman know that unless it was an orchestrated plan? Why would there be a ‘green revolution’ prepared prior to the vote, especially if Mousavi and his supporters were as confident of victory as they claim? This looks like definite evidence that the US is involved in the election protests." So quickly Americans forget how the US was involved with the 1953 Iranian "coup d´état" that deposed the democratically-elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeqh. it wouldn't surprise me one little bit if the CIA is behind it all. The plot thickens...

POPSThe Waning Power of Truth Quite an interesting take on the current situation in Iran, written by Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury during President Reagan’s first term and former Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal. If you're into "conspiracy theories" and covert CIA operations etc (as I am), the whole piece is an interesting, though not surprising, read.

POPSGW Bush and Family to Relocate to Paraguay? “This all still seems very innocent on the surface,” writes Steve O at Bring it On!, “but now let’s add the five hundred U.S. troops that arrived in Paraguay with planes, weapons and ammunition in July 2005, shortly after the Paraguayan Senate granted U.S. troops immunity from national and International Criminal Court (ICC) jurisdiction.

POPSIraq Rally for Bush Shoe Attacker "This is a farewell kiss, you dog," he yelled in Arabic as he threw his shoes. "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq." Correspondents say the journalist's tirade was echoed by Arabs across the Middle East who are fed up with US policy in the region. "He deserves to be hit with 100, not just one or two shoes. Who wants him to come here?" said a man in Baghdad. But his view was not expressed by everyone. "I think this incident is unnecessary, to be honest. That was a press conference, not a war. If someone wants to express his opinion he should do so in the proper manner, not this way," said another Baghdad resident. Doesn't that Nike commercial say; "Just do it" ? .:)

POPSObama, Cheney and Bush Related factcheck.org: We wouldn't make too much of this, though. After all, according to at least some researchers, a common ancestor for all humans now alive may have existed just several thousand years ago. That means you, dear reader, could have a cousinly relationship that may not go all that far back to everyone from Jack Kevorkian to Tina Fey to Hugo Chavez to the woman selling trinkets from a piece of cardboard on a Bangalore street corner. Barack Obama related to Brad Pitt, 6 U.S. Presidents, Cheney

POPSCan George W. Bush "Self-Pardon'" Himself? Would the entire country freak out over such brazen self-dealing? No doubt. Would Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al., care? Not a bit. After all, given the choice between a trial for high treason and murder (resulting in a possible death sentence) versus millions of people thinking badly of them (which 82 percent of the public already does), the answer is obvious. But though the public might rise up in horror, politicians on all sides would secretly breath a sigh of relief. Especially Democrats. In fact, it is my guess that Obama and virtually every Democrat in Congress is secretly praying for Bush to "self-pardon" himself. Not because they wish him to escape justice, but because they don't want the politically dangerous, nationally divisive, and ultimately thankless task of having to administer it.

Brazil is big!" "I'm glad my Vice President is not running for President Not that he would make a great President" "It's important to think beyond the old days of when we had the concept that if we blew each other up, the world would be safe" "I hope the ambitious realize that they are more likely to succeed with success as opposed to failure" "I think the president has to be smart" I just picked some 'favourites'. Go to the source for the whole long speech, written entirely with Bushisms. . .:)

POPSCitizens Will Risk Arrest to Bring Indictment of Bush and Cheney In April 2008, Obama said that as president he would indeed ask his new Attorney General and his deputies to "immediately review the information that's already there" and determine if an inquiry is warranted. It is the responsibility of citizens to make sure this happens. Chief Prosecutor at the Nuremberg Tribunals following World War II, stated, "let me make clear that while this law is first applied against German aggressors, the law includes, and if it is to serve a useful purpose it must condemn aggression by any other nations, including those which sit here now in judgement." It is time, no matter who becomes our next president, to bring the criminals of the Bush regime to justice. We, the people, have the power and we can restore justice. Our group would include someone who was directly affected by the illegal invasion of Iraq.

POPSObama Victory Alters the Tenor of Iraqi Politics Over all, however, there was a new tone of optimism. “The atmosphere is positive with the American attempt to preserve the sovereignty of the Iraqi nation,” the government’s spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, told the news channel Al Arabiya. He praised the inclusion of a new provision stating that Americans would not launch attacks on Iraq’s neighbors from Iraqi soil. “There’s going to be a significant presence, but they are not going to be ‘combat’ forces,” said the administration official. “The other thing we witnessed through the Bush period was that when the Iraqi politicians couldn’t reach a compromise, Bush interfered,” Mr. Habeeb said. “I don’t think Obama will do that; he will not try to set the Iraqi agenda,” he said. “I think the politicians will have to be mature enough to solve their own problems and dare to make compromises.”

POPSHow We Got Stuck With George W. Bush P.S. Don't be too surprised if McCain and Palin "win" next week. No matter how unlikely the outcome, the US news media stands ready to pump out a plausible "cover story" to explain the results. - Brasscheck I'll bet they do! Be forewarned. We all know it happened the last two elections and it could very well happen again. In fact, I think it's highly likely, they'll try. They've had eight years to rig the setup even more and I do not see the republicans having any intentions of playing fair, as their campaigning methods and the last eight years have shown. If it should happen, don't let them get away with it. Fool you once, shame on them, fool you twice...okay, there's shame enough to go around.... but three times?? You're either a democratic republic. Or you're not. It's that simple.

POPSAnd We Won't Come Out! "All U.S. forces in Iraq will simply remain in their bases and not come out." This is simply ridiculous. It sounds more like a kindergarten spat, than world politics.

POPSPact May Open US Troops to Iraqi Prosecution Bush administration officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the evolving diplomacy on the so-called Status of Forces Agreement, said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other top Bush aides will soon to begin briefing key members of Congress on the draft. In case American troops are arrested for such offenses, they would be transferred to U.S. custody but made available to Iraqi authorities for questioning and trial, the officials said. The negotiating teams have decided they cannot improve on the proposal and have sent it to higher-ups for a political decision as time runs out on both the Bush administration and the U.N. mandate. (T)he State Department confirmed that a draft agreement had been finalized but refused to discuss any details...

POPSBush Denounces 'Dungeon' of Cuba You'd think Bush was speaking of his own dictatorial reign, eh? "Our great nation that believes in human rights and human dignity, blah, blah, blah..." Hahahaha! What a joke! Tell that to the people of Iraq or Afghanistan or the people wasting away in Gitmo! I'd bet Castro's popularity ratings are higher than yours! Bush, why don't you just STFU? Fix your own country, who is "being repressed by a handful of elites" first, before trying to impose your twisted version of "freedom", on everyone else! Lift the embargo. POPSEurope Must Be Realistic About Life After Bush There is one factor that has not changed in US foreign policy: democracy promotion. Combined with post-9/11 priorities, such neo-Wilsonian militancy will tend to divide rather than unite the Atlantic partners. ----- At this early stage, such a crisis is not inevitable. A mature and stable transatlantic partnership is possible – but not on the basis of unreasonable hopes of a second honeymoon.

POPSPolice Atrocities Define The Bush Police State
"If you've ever publicly opposed Bush's war of naked aggression in Iraq, you can bet you're in NSA's database, called TALON. POPSIt's Treason If their treason continues, then decent and thinking citizens everywhere -- concerned patriots all -- can only weep for their country What do you reckon folks? Any grand heroes out there in the wings waiting to ride in and save the good ol' US of A from self-destructing? A Democrat? Republican? Elections? Captain America? Superman? Batman? Naaa, Gotham City is doomed . Prepared for life under the eternal rule of Lex Luther and Co. They say you get the government you deserve. Maybe that's true! The politicians, the media and even the people have betrayed the USA and everything She supposedly stood for, by allowing it to happen. Such a shame. The USA had such a bright future once. What a shame to peak so young and throw it all away. A real shame.
