POPSChinese Seek To Pull Cats From The Menu She picked up one cat with a fresh red scar running around its body caused by a wire that dealers wrap around cats to keep them from running away. Often, the cats are badly mistreated in their final moments, crammed as tightly as tomatoes into crates so they can't breathe, and clubbed into semiconsciousness before being thrown alive into boiling water. "This is a crime that humiliates all Chinese people," Lu said. "Guangdong people are the most unprincipled of the human species!" wrote one person. "They would eat their mothers-in-law if there was no law."

POPSAmazing Winged Cats: Egyptian Angels? A Translated Egyptian Prayer to Bast “Beloved Bast, mistress of happiness and bounty, twin of the Sun God, slay the evil that afflicts our minds as you slew the serpent Apep. With your graceful stealth anticipate the moves of all who perpetrate cruelties and stay their hands against the children of light. Grant us the joy of song and dance, and ever watch over us in the lonely places in which we must walk” The Egyptian reverence toward cats was profound – the penalty for killing a cat, accidentally or not, was being put to death. However, the prayer suggests something deeper, the cat is seen as a protector of man sent from the heaven’s, is this how we could describe an angel? This has got be one of the most bizarre things I have ever read. On the other hand, I have always known that cats are truly little angels. (Even the wingless ones) I stand in awe. Cats are just so cool. :) There are some videos at the source. Check them out.

POPS12 Uses For Vinegar I couldn't do without it. I buy it by the gallon! Vinegar is really good for removing calcium build-up and as a hair conditioner too (especially if you have hard water) It shines up my kitchen sink like a charm and put a little in the water bucket when you wash windows for a streak free view. Mix a little with some yoghurt and you have an excellent aftersun lotion that works better than any store-bought variety IMO and it helps avoid peeling if you get sunburnt. Zap a cup of it and the microwave oven becomes a breeze to clean. Save LOTS of money and lower your use of toxic chemicals coz it's eco-friendly too!

POPSEdgar The Cat's Face Reattached After Accident Bonnie Beaver, a professor of small animal clinical services at Texas A&M University, said such animal injuries are extremely rare sincecats are usually killed instantly from car fan belts. "She may have problems later," Beaver said, "but the cat was saying, `I may have lost this life but, by golly, I have eight more.'"

POPSWho's a Clever Boy? In another recent study, Dr Friederike Range, of the University of Vienna’s neurobiology department, said dogs felt jealous when unfairly treated compared with other dogs. Dr Range, who's results will be published tomorrow, said: 'Dogs show a strong aversion to inequity'.

POPSWall Street Fat Cats Are Trying to Pocket Billions in Bailout Cash "We're making homeowners take a big hit, and if there's any justification for any of these bonuses -- which is dubious -- sharing that burden is important." But that's not quite the sharing that Wall Street wanted from the bailout package. Yet, if "change has come to America," as per Obama's promise, then it's high time for Wall Street to shoulder its part -- starting with this bonus season. A decisive move by Obama on this topic would go a long way toward solidifying the central promise of his campaign.

POPSSleeping With The Cat I can SO relate to this video. *LOL* I have 5 cats, of which I am sure at least two have ADHD. What would 8 straight hours of sleep feel like? I have NO idea.

POPSYour Bi-Lingual Kitty "It’s kind of nice to think your kitty has gone to the effort to learn a second language to communicate with you. Sure, she did it mostly out of necessity, but also out of affection. She wouldn’t meow just for your attention if she didn’t enjoy a relationship with you."

POPSCute With Chris WARNING: Contains Cat Nudity. I forgot to clip this one. Lotion Makes You Slippery

POPSThe Healing Power of Dogs Integrative Cancer Therapies reported how ordinary house dogs could identify breast and lung cancer patients by smelling their breath. A University of Maine study is testing whether dogs can sniff out ovarian cancer.. Via the breath too, I hope! *LOL* Dogs rock, cats rule. Get a pet. It's good for you. :)

POPSHow To Make A $5 Dollar Burglar Alarm Great idea! The pause button came in useful here, but it's a good cheap idea. My cats know how to get into their food cupboard, the little buggers. Heh, heh, heh... they will NOT be pleased. Cookie jars came to mind too.... and fridges ... and to stop sleepwalkers... and to stop pesky little kids escaping out the back door when your eyes are turned for just one second! Godammit, get back here, ya little rug rats!! ....

POPSDeclawing - What You Need To Know Of all the "well-intentioned" things people do to their pets, this has always been the worst IMO. I have seen cats suffer tremendous lifelong chronic pain, after this barbaric surgery. Some even having to be put down after botched surgery. Another side effect is, that if a cat is "a scratcher", amputating their toes often turns them into biters instead. (Please don't pull all their teeth either!! *LOL*) Anyway...the whole problem here lies not in that cats have claws, it lies in people not providing the appropriate environment for the cat . A simple scratching post and a bit of education is all you need, to have a happy healthy non-destructive cat WITH all it's toes (and teeth). Cats live 3-dimensional lives, as apposed to dogs, who live in two. Being able to climb is essential for the well-being of a cat. Cats have toes and claws for a reason!! Please don't mutilate your pet, but get smart instead. Your cat will thank you for it, and so will I. :)

POPSNo! I think, the youngest member of my cat family thinks his name is No.

POPSOperant Conditioning And A Funny Story... My cats are conditioned to come when they hear church bells. They get their dinner every night at 6 when the church near by rings the sun down. If I need them to come, all I have to do is play Pink Floyd - Division Bells. They're all here in a flash. Bells are a good sound for conditioning cats, coz it travels far. :) Pink Floyd - Division Bells

POPSPardon All of the Turkeys If not pardon them, then at least pity them. I don't expect everyone to want to give up their Thanksgiving turkey, but please buy conscientiously. Please don't support the inhumane producers who treat the animals with such a cruelty, you would not believe. (Videos at the site for those who can stomach it.) Get a bird that has lived a good life, so you can enjoy your dinner with a good conscience. Happy Thanksgiving, folks. :)

POPSImmunize Your Children Or Go To Jail
I am adamantly opposed to any sort of mandatory, forced or imposed vaccination programs. I do NOT trust the pharmaceutical companies. Last time I was vaccinated, I was deathly sick for three days and thought I was going to die! Despite this, blood tests showed that I still hadn't developed the necessary amount of antibodies for the vaccine to be effective and I was advised to have the vaccination again! Yeah right!! In your dreams Dr. Death! *LOL* One of my cats is also extremely sensitive to vaccinations and gets SO sick too. Vaccinations and medicine are NOT one size fits all. No-one should be forced to have anything injected into them or their children (or pets.) I'll take my chances against the bugs any day, rather than being bumped off by the vaccination itself! If this were imposed upon me or my kids (or pets), they would be home schooled instantly or we would leave the state. End of story. There's a little video at the site, but it wouldn't clip.

POPSThe Cat Diary Today's story is about "blogging". Go the site and read the rest. The Big Owner used to have another cat, Chance, but he died (*sniff*) and now he reads from his new cat Mars' diary. They're just silly little stories about life and the world, as seen through the eyes of a cat, but they brighten my day. Kind of like Garfield. Anyway... enjoy. :) http://www.catdiary.com

POPSSpanking The Cat *LOL* Watch the cat's paws. He's so cute! (Weird, but cute!) It's amazing he wants it for so long!

POPSAlone In Life, Alone In Death "She would tell me, 'Buddy, I don't know what I would do without you.' Or she'd say, 'Sit down, Buddy, and stay awhile.' Aww, such a sad story. I think I read somewhere that in the western world, one in three people lives alone. That leaves a lot of room for loneliness or isolation. I'm not a big people-person myself. (Who would have thunk it? *LOL*) Anyway, some people prefer solitude and like it that way. Some suffer tremendously. How will you know, if you don't reach out? Don't let this happen to your neighbour (or their cats!). Rest in peace Mrs Ballard. (Would somebody nearby; neighbours, police, rspca, please get those cats picked up! What is wrong with people!? Isn't one sad death enough? Geeez. )

POPSClintons Dumped Socks! This says a lot about one's character IMO, or lack thereof. Where I come from, pets are family . Pets are *people*. You do not abandon them. They are not "things" you just toss away on a whim. Pets are "adoptions, not aquisitions." Watch out Hillary, there are lots of voting animal lovers out there. Wouldn't it be a thrill, if a cat got to influence who became president... or not? Yay, go Socks!! . "No pet left behind" Hillary!!
