POPSNo Country for Sick Men Declaration of Independence says we all have "inalienable rights," including a right to life, and you can't have life without medical care to keep you alive. --- In the other advanced democracies, though, there's no debate. All of them recognize a right to "health care for all" as a moral obligation. --- In the other developed democracies, there's a basic floor of coverage that everybody is entitled to; that's why nobody dies in those nations for lack of care. In the U.S., in contrast, some people have access to just about everything doctors and hospitals can provide. But others can't even get in the door (until they are sick enough to need emergency care). That amounts to rationing care by wealth. This seems natural to Americans; to the rest of the developed world, it looks immoral. The question facing Americans this fall is: what should be the ethical basis of America's health-care system?

POPSPentagon Planning Deployment of Troops in Support of Nationwide Vaccination It is worth noting that this involvement of the military is not being decided by the President, but by the Secretary of Defense, which suggests that the Pentagon is, in a key issue of of national interest, overriding the President and Commander in Chief. The US Congress has not been consulted on the issue. This decision to mobilise the Armed Forces in the vaccination campaign is taken in anticipation of a national emergency. Although no national emergency has been called, the presumption is that a national public health emergency will occur, using the WHO Level 6 Pandemic as a pretext and a justification.

POPSChildren in Gaza Facing Health Epidemics Adding to Gaza's woes, Israeli bombs damaged its already inadequate sewage system, and there are dozens of buried bodies rotting under the rubble, creating a stifling stench. "The breakdown of the water and sewage systems can increase the risk of diarrhea and other viral diseases, particularly among children," Daher said.

POPSThe Test The next Presidency has within its reach at least two generation-spanning causes: the need to jump-start a new energy economy, and, in so doing, help to contain climate change; and the need to enact a plan to provide quality health care to all Americans, and, in so doing, complete the project of social insurance that Roosevelt described in 1935. Each of these projects is urgent, but it is health-care reform that speaks more directly to the economic and human dimensions of the present downturn. The accumulating failures in the country’s health-care system are a cause of profound weakness in the American economy ; unaddressed, this weakness will exacerbate the coming recession and crimp its aftermath. Add to this the system’s moral failings: about twenty-two thousand people die in this country annually because they lack health insurance.

POPSOpen Source Healthcare? Collective knowledge—something that the Web, and in particular the social Web, is very good at enabling—allows them to put their disease in context. Bringing health histories out into the open can provide answers to those questions, something that even doctors can't do. "In the end, it's the same as open-source software," says Heywood. "If you can see all the information, you can correct the errors." Open source healthcare? Wow. That's something new, eh?

POPSThe Healing Power of Dogs Integrative Cancer Therapies reported how ordinary house dogs could identify breast and lung cancer patients by smelling their breath. A University of Maine study is testing whether dogs can sniff out ovarian cancer.. Via the breath too, I hope! *LOL* Dogs rock, cats rule. Get a pet. It's good for you. :)

POPSIraq Sees Catastrophic Rise In Cholera "We have a catastrophe in Baghdad," she said. Hmm... she for got the word; another . In its most severe forms, cholera is one of the most rapidly fatal illnesses known—a healthy person may become hypotensive within an hour of the onset of symptoms and may die within 2-3 hours if no treatment is provided. More commonly, the disease progresses from the first liquid stool to shock in 4-12 hours, with death following in 18 hours to several days without rehydration treatment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholera

POPS400 Sickened By Bromide Poisoning Vaccinations maybe? Pesticides? Secret experiments on humans? Population control? I'm not a conspiracy theorist (*LOL*), so perhaps it's *just* poisonous toys from China or something. Strange. Bromide compounds, especially potassium bromide, were frequently used as sedatives in the 19th and early 20th century. ------------ It has been rumoured (in particular, by British troops during world War II, who believed it was regularly added to their tea) that bromide can reduce incidence of erections for males ------------ Bromide is also used in hot tubs and spas as a germicidal agent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromide
