NEW YORK, Apr 10, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Clipmarks ( www.clipmarks.com), the leader in Web clipping technology, today introduces ClipSearch, a people-powered search solution that makes it easy to locate what you or others have already found on the Web. Each time a user clips something from a Web page, they build their own searchable library of Web highlights. By saving clips publicly, users are contributing to a people-powered search engine for the best bits of the Web.
"One of the great challenges of the online experience is locating things that you or others have previously found on the Web," said Eric Goldstein, CEO of Clipmarks. "Rather than placing the burden on users to provide and remember their own tags, ClipSearch does the work for you. In effect, each time you clip something, you are building your own search engine for things you want to remember from your journey on the Web."
Traditional bookmarking services typically limit search queries to a bookmark's title, tags and description. ClipSearch also looks for matching keywords within the content of clips, making it easier for users to retrieve things they have clipped and more likely that visitors will find clips about topics that interest them. By providing a link to the source page of each clip, Clipmarks is not only connecting people with information, but with Web sites about any topic. In conjunction with the introduction of ClipSearch, Clipmarks also introduces the 'Surprise Me' search, a new way for people to toggle through interesting topics on the site.
"When you're on the Web, you don't always know exactly what you're looking for, but you know you want to find something interesting," said Adam Collett, Designer of Clipmarks. "The 'Surprise Me' button lets you channel surf through the Clipmarks site, just like a remote control lets you change the channel on the TV until you find something that interests you."
Clipmarks is a web-clipping tool that allows people to capture or "clip" just the text, images or video from a Web page (or multiple Web pages) that is most important to them. Much like magazine or newspaper clippings, Clipmarks lets users clip just the pieces of the page they want to save or share - not the entire web page or link. Users can automatically save their clips on clipmarks.com, post them to their blog, or email them to friends. The Clipmarks Web site has become home to a vibrant community of clippers who share the interesting things they find on the Web, comment on each other's clips and "pop" their favorite clips to the top for others to see.
Clipmarks is a free browser add-on available for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Flock. For more information or to become a registered user, please visit www.clipmarks.com.
