adamskinner
by adamskinner  10-11-2006    5
Too true! People are trapped mentally by the expectations of others. By taking into consideration their norms and expectations, and purposefully setting yoruself against them, they have power over you. Instead of fulfilling your intention to be free of their influence, you are still trapped by their influence!

Afghan Women Demand Protection
invictus
by invictus  10-10-2006
The groups--the Afghan Women's Network, Agency Coordination Body for Afghan Relief, Afghan Civil Society Forum, and the Foundation for Culture and Civil Society--demanded drivers, bodyguards, and technology for community leaders to keep them safe from terrorists; financial support for the families of terror victims; and international aid to address what they called the root causes of social insecurity.

Good Agile, Bad Agile (or Why Google is Unstoppable)
Kore7
by Kore7  10-10-2006
Steve Yegge on the benefits and mostly drawbacks of agile programming. Probably the most interesting portion is his insider's look into the development atmosphere at Google, where a controlled type of agile programming runs rampant, with huge results. Oh and did he menion the perks? And there are still other incentives; the list goes on and ON and ON ; the perks are over the top, and the rewards are over the top, and everything there is so comically over the top that you have no choice, as an outsider, but to assume that everything the recruiter is telling you is a baldfaced lie, because there's no possible way a company could be that generous to all of its employees, all of them, I mean even the contractors who clean the micro-kitchens, they get these totally awesome "Google Micro-Kitchen Staff" shirts and fleeces.
