POPSLearning Should Be Fun " if you can get out of the rut of right and wrong you free up a natural capacity for experience-led, curiosity-driven learning. Soon you'll be flying along again, experiencing the learning equivalent of the jogger's high, and all thanks to that chemical messenger dopamine and a brain that's evolved to find things out for itself, and feel good while doing it."

POPSThink Animals Don't Think Like Us? Think Again "By implication, a vast world of animal cognition exists out there, not just in African Grey parrots but in other creatures, too. It is a world largely untapped by science. Clearly, animals know more than we think, and think a great deal more than we know. That, essentially, was what Alex (and a growing number of research projects) taught us. He taught us that our vanity had blinded us to the true nature of minds, animal and human; that so much more is to be learned about animal minds than received doctrine allowed. No wonder Alex and I faced so much flak!" From Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Discovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence—and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process, by Irene Pepperberg.

POPS"Ancient rock art baffles experts" continues: "This" is joining more than 100 other Gore-Tex-clad volunteers scouring the moorland of north-east England, searching for traces of the enigmatic and weirdly beautiful carvings our ancestors made on stretches of flat rocks and boulders. The project is a collaboration between English Heritage and Northumberland and Durham County Councils. So far, more than 100 previously unknown carvings have been discovered, featuring a mysterious mix of concentric circles, interlocking rings and hollowed cups. They are broadly dated between 4,000 and 6,000 years old.

POPS'Memory pill' could be available soon "The reality is we're not always at our best. After being up at night looking after the kids or travelling, many people would love to have something to sharpen them up. It's not taboo to drink Red Bull. The principle with cognition enhancers is not so different."
