Aribeth
by Aribeth  7-13-2009    2
4,000 words a day, seven days a week – mostly done propped up in bed.The effort produced excruciating pain and high temperatures. A week before he finished typing he was still unsure what to put on the title page: ‘I am hesitating between Nineteen Eighty-Four and The Last Man In Europe.’ Orwell died six months after publication, aged 46.

Toltec: Don Miguel Ruiz
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  7-12-2009
'Fortunately, the esoteric Toltec knowledge was embodied and passed on through generations by different lineages of Naguals. Though it remained veiled in secrecy for hundreds of years, ancient prophecies foretold the coming of an age when it would be necessary to return the wisdom to the people. Now, don Miguel has been guided to share with us the powerful teachings of the Toltec."

We want propserity and we want it now!
egoldstein
by egoldstein  7-12-2009    3
Come on now...isn't it a bit premature to be claiming that President Obama's decisions have not worked. And isn't it a bit absurd to be complaining because we don't have "prosperity" back. I really think this notion that prosperity is an entitlement for Americans is ludicrous. We had our prosperity and we got drunk on it...and now we're paying for it. The idea that we can just have it back seems like a load of you know what. I have no idea if Obama's economic decisions will prove to work or not...but i do know that politicians who are already ranting and raving that they "haven't worked" are doing nothing to help the country.

That horrible media double-standard toward Palin
masbury
by masbury  7-12-2009    2
the same conservative commentariat that vilified both Clintons 24/7 now whines that Palin is receiving “the kind of mauling” that the media “always reserve for conservative Republicans.” So said The Wall Street Journal editorial page last week. You’d never guess that The Journal had published six innuendo-laden books on real and imagined Clinton scandals, or that the Clintons had been a leading target of both Letterman and Leno monologues, not to mention many liberal editorial pages (including that of The Times), for much of a decade

"Pope proposes Catholic-Muslim merger"
cakebelly

So we batted around some ideas for names, logos, market share and so on. We’re just trying some stuff out.” The Pope was not concerned that devout Catholics may be upset by the new combined-faith church. “Let’s just say, if they’re that devout, they’ll do what I say. I can switch to infallibility mode any time I like. And if any of my people don’t like that, they can just kiss my ring goodbye.” The Pope downplayed concerns that the merger could bring Muslim terrorists into the Catholic church, dismissing the attacks of recent years as youthful hijinks. “Hey, what kid hasn’t joined an extremist group at some time or other. I feel for those young mujahideen scallywags. It’s just a phase. I was in the Hitler Youth, myself.” “I’ll tell you one thing, though,” quipped the aged pontiff, “when this deal goes through, those Jews better watch out! No, I’m k

Mother of teen is mad-as-hell about the Sarkozy, Obama photo
clip-on-tie

Her mom added, "She is really skinny and only ever wears pants. Mayara is timid and ashamed of her body. This was the first time in her life that she wore a dress, and it was borrowed from a friend in the shantytown because she doesn't own one." The high school sophomore, who hails from one of Rio de Janeiro's slums known as favelas, had been picked by UNICEF to join the counterpart Junior 8 forum of teenagers because she stood out as a community volunteer. She shares a single room with her parents and two younger brothers and can't afford the bus fare to attend a good high school. "Why are they looking at her like that? This is a girl who is articulate and intelligent and just wants to do the right thing," the father said. "Instead, they are forcing her into a negative light."
