POPSPolitical Satire Stronger Than Candidates This is a good article about extra-wonderful satire and Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin (the first quote clipped here)...and a couple of nice slashes at Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden. These comedy sketches are becoming more well-known than the candidates themselves. Many folks now, when they hear Palin speak, wonder ahead to how SNL will parody it. Palin, certainly, gives the comics a lot of material to work with. A link to a video of the skits is at the bottom of this article. With the elections just a bit more than three weeks from now, we have to "press on," -- these Republicans are like vampires and to kill them you really have to drive a stake through their heart: They're not dead till they're dead. At least with our talented comics we not only can 'press on,' but laugh-on as well.

POPSAhmadinejad accepts Israel's right to exist Iran's president finally opens himself to the possibility of recognizing Israel's right to exist, and no one reports on it. I am no fan of this bastard, but when he makes threatening statements about Israel, his words make headlines. But when he starts to soften his stance, his words are ignored. Is this because the media is afraid to report anything positive about this man? And who are they afraid of upsetting?

POPSTerrorist Attack on American Soil Would it surprise anyone that the republicans are behind this? That war machine doesn't know where or how to stop. They inflict false fear everywhere and now this. This is really bugging me. This article is originally entitled... Muslim Children Gassed at Dayton Mosque After "Obsession" DVD Hits Ohio. If you like the movie Obsession, check out The Power of Nightmares. Where did the fear that perpetrated this crime come from? Put down the remote and step away from the TV. While pastors are motivating their flocks to come back to church next week they ought to throw in a message on 1 John 2:6 "the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked."

POPSStudy: Terror Alerts Would Hurt McCain-Palin You can only exploit people's fears for so long before they wise up and realize you're not actually doing anything about the thing you're afraid of. Just as the "values voters" have come to realize that Republicans aren't really addressing their issues, so "security voters" are too.

POPSWhere Does Money Come From? "Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere -- so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive -- that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." -Woodrow Wilson Where does money come from? Why doesn't your government own it's own money? Why does your government borrow all it's money from private banks at interest? What is "fractional reserve banking?" Our money system is a big fucking ponzi scheme, based on debt. IOUs. And IOUs taken out against IOUs. This is how the housing market collapsed , massive numbers of people unable (or too fucking smart) to continue paying the debt on houses that ad less value than the debt itself. If you use money and carry any kind of debt, you need to watch this video.

POPSMcCain rushes to Washington, never shows up After bragging "not my style to simply phone it in" McCain never appears on Capitol Hill Fri or Sat after rushing back from debate. Why? Aide Mark Salter: he "can... do what he needs to do by phone."

POPSNow Who Will Bailout the Federal Government? Contrary to Bush's speech this is what Americans should really be afraid of. Here is a sneak preview to a Forbes 9/28 article from Economics professor at Boston University. The real liability facing our government is $70 trillion. This represents the present value difference between all the government's projected future spending obligations and all its projected future tax receipts. This fiscal gap takes into account Uncle Sam's need to service official debt--outstanding U.S. government bonds. But it also recognizes all our government's unofficial debts, including its obligation to the soon-to-be-retired baby boomers to pay their Social Security and Medicare benefits. (The link in the clipmark goes to a pdf of his paper that will be published in Forbes)

POPSRon Paul and Why the Bailout Should Make You Afraid, Very Afraid I keep reading about how the alternative to the bailout would be much worse. I keep hearing this “we are helping main street” narrative from the supporters of the bailout. To me this is hogwash. Ron Paul said it best yesterday on CNN when he said that without the bailout we’d “have a bad year” but with the bailouts it “will be a bad decade”. I’m afraid, very afraid that Ron Paul is right again.

POPSLearning from Dr. King "...And the cessation of breathing in your life is but the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit. You died when you refused to stand up for right. You died when you refused to stand up for truth. You died when you refused to stand up for justice." -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. From the sermon "But, If Not" delivered at Ebenezer Baptist Church on November 5, 1967.

POPSSocialism Coming to America? Senator Jim DeMint said: “This plan does nothing to address the misguided government policies that created this mess and it could make matters much worse by socializing an entire sector of the U.S. economy. This plan fails to oversee or regulate the government failures that led to this crisis. Instead it greatly increases the role for Secretary Paulson whose market predictions have been consistently wrong in the last year…” So far, there has been no discussion about what got us into this mess and the only solution being talked about is more of the same failed monetary policies. If passed by Congress, Paulson would assume the dictatorial power and authority to designate financial institutions “as financial agents of the Government” and order them to perform “all such reasonable duties related to this Act as financial agents of the Government as may be required of them…” Having so much control over a so called 'free market' negates the very idea of "free".

POPSThe Demise of Meritocracy & The Push to Mediocrity "In America these days, we award everyone for merit, from the brilliant to the mediocre. Just as in Little League, everyone gets a trophy. It's the ultimate in populist democratization. Which is why McCain insists, despite all empirical evidence to the contrary, that Sarah Palin 'knows more about energy than probably anybody in the United States of America.' "

POPSPalin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter
An African evangelist, Pastor Muthee has given guest sermons at the Wasilla Assembly of God on at least 10 occasions in his role as the founder of the Word of Faith Church, also known as the Prayer Cave. The pastor speaks of his offensive against a demonic presence in the town in a trailer for the evangelical video “Transformations”, Pastor Muthee founded the Prayer Cave in 1989 in Kiambu, Kenya after “God spoke” to him and his late wife Margaret and called him to the country, according to the church’s website. The full Transformations video featuring Pastor Muthee’s story has recently been removed from YouTube but the rest of the story is detailed in a 1999 article in the Christian Science Monitor, as well as on numerous evangelical websites. According to the Christian Science Monitor, six months of fervent prayer and research identified the source of the witchcraft as a local woman called Mama Jane, who ran a “divination” centre called the Emmanuel Clinic.

POPSPalins-McCain Block Troopergate Investigation If there was nothing to hide Todd would appear as subpoenad and McCain would not have sent his best lawyers to Alaska! They are holding out (contempt of court?) til after the November elections. Todd's lawyer says its "partisanship", yet the investigation is bipartisan and it is republicans in Alaska that wanted it! Are they afraid of the republicans? Is Todd in refusing in contempt of court? Todd is a pawn that is moved by and for his wife's ambitions. If there is nothing to hide why resist?

POPSBattle for Congress Becoming Competitive The Americans are very disappointed by the spiteful, do-nothing, hapless clowns who currently control Congress. If I were Reid, Pelosi, Kerry, Murtha, et al, I would be very afraid. They just might be sent packing and have to work for the first time in their miserable lives. Ah, but maybe they could be "community organizers"...
