POPSObama Issues First Video Address Big surprise; it's about the economy, stupid. Lots to like here -- extending unemployment benefits, boosting the economy by investing in infrastructure and green energy, and affordable health care. Nice to hear the green energy part, since it falls in line with my Friday post . Dealing with the climate and fixing the economy can be the same damned thing. A transcript of the address is also available at the link .

POPSJohn Edwards = John McCain Edwards was a typical "guy" in his cheating ways: "But going out and getting stupidly laid and then coming home and reconciling with the wife is not the same as going out, getting stupidly laid, then divorcing the crippled wife and marrying the pretty young thing (and taking out your marriage license before the divorce is final). One is stupid. The other is cruel. Brutal. Heinous. And well within the moral capacities of our Republican presidential candidate." Cenk Uygur, in his regular blog at AOL News, observes, "Now that Edwards has admitted to an extramarital affair, everyone will now condemn him and say he has no political career left. I want to ask all of those people, how is Edwards' affair any different John McCain's? If Edwards is disqualified from running for office because of this, isn't McCain as well?"

POPSCourt Ruling Will Expose Viewing Habits of YouTube Users
The Logging database contains: for each instance a video is watched, the unique “login ID” of the user who watched it, the time when the user started to watch the video, the internet protocol address other devices connected to the internet use to identify the user’s computer (“IP address”), and the identifier for the video. In any event, the court ordered production of not just IP addresses, but also all the associated information in the Logging database. Whatever might be said about 'an IP address without additional information,' the the AOL search history leak fiasco shows that the material viewed by a user alone can be sufficient to identify the user, even with neither a login nor an IP address. The Court's erroneous ruling is a set-back to privacy rights, and will allow Viacom to see what you are watching on YouTube. We urge Viacom to back off this overbroad request and Google to take all steps necessary to challenge this order and protect the rights of its users.

POPS21st Century Turing Test: A heterophenomenological approach In this video I argue against Chalmers 'Hard Problem' of consciousness and propose that we discuss necessary conditions of what we would consider to be human consciousness. Then decide what so called 'objective observations' we could carry out in order to see what it would take for a machine to be conscious (in the way that we of course define it). For those of you slightly unfamiliar with the topic I have provided a few links which you may find interesting :) The Turing Test history and future: http://www.fil.ion.ucl.ac.uk/~asaygin...
