POPSVornado TouchStone Vortex Heater Like most rental housing in northern California, our apartment lacks much insulation and has one centrally-located, inadequate wall heater. We've found that a space heater works much better, and this one looks a lot nicer than the one we currently have.

POPSPhotos - Homeless for Christmas in the U.S. There but for the grace of God ... So many families and individuals are one paycheck away from homelessness. It only takes one disaster, one monetary slip or miscalculation to throw someone into homelessness. So many hang on the edge of loosing everything they have and ending up in the welfare system, or on the streets in true homelessness. Count your blessings!

POPSCalifornia OKs bills to ban phthalates in kids' products, and lead bullets in condor country 'Some of the vetoed environmental bills include legislation that would have required chain restaurants to list nutrition information on common menu items, a bill that would have forced apartment complexes to offer recycling to their tenets, a measure that would have required bottled-water companies to reveal the source of their water, a pair of bills requiring new energy-efficiency standards for both residential and commercial buildings, and legislation that would have required labeling food made from cloned animals.'

POPSThe Man Who Exposed China More: The toothpaste scare helped galvanize global concerns about the quality of China’s exports in general, prompting the government there to promise to reform how food, medicine and consumer products are regulated. And other countries are re-examining how well they monitor imported products. Lost in this swirl of activity was the identity of the person who started it all — Mr. Arias.

POPSAre People's Individual Rights Going Up In Smoke As a former smoker, I know what it feels like to be made to feel like a pariah for smoking. I have spent many a lonely moment on cold patios or street corners. I have become at this point very much a believer that smoking is a public health issue. However, the key word here is "public." What people do in the privacy of their own homes is sacrosanct and the government should have no say in those matters. If a person rents an apartment or home where smokers used to reside, just air the place out and have it cleaned. If that is not enough, that search a bit harder to find accommodations that was previously occupied by non-smokers. But please, keep the government out of our homes.

POPSFor the anti-smoking Nazi's continued... Some anti-smoking advocates want it banned even inside apartments. "Now people are complaining about smoke going from one apartment to another apartment," Glantz said. Glantz said the people in other apartments could be harmed since the "level of toxicity in the smoke is very very high." Frankly, I like the smoke-free zones, but the science behind them may be a myth. "I think the documented health effects of secondhand smoke are enough. I don't think we need to be stretching the truth," Siegel said.
