POPSTransgender Violence Continues in Memphis Violence against transgender women continues in Memphis, TN and around the country. Police are indifferent, & mainstream America is apathetic. Listen: if you allow it to happen to THEM, sooner or later, it *will* happen to you.

POPSAll Hope is Lost My friends in South Africa say there are so many problems on the continent of Africa, and this is just one more. They feel that nobody really cares about a bunch of blacks so far away from them. Apathy is the word for today.

POPS5 Psychological Experiments That Expose Humanity's Dark Side #2. The Stanford Prison Experiment (1971) The Setup: Psychologist Philip Zimbardo wanted to find out how captivity affects authorities and inmates in prison. Sounds innocent enough. Seriously, what could go wrong? #1. The Milgram Experiment (1961) The Setup: When the prosecution of the Nazis got underway at the Nuremberg Trials, many of the defendants' excuse seemed to revolve around the ideas of, "I'm not really a prick" and, "Hey man, I was just following orders." Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram wanted to test willingness of subjects to obey an authority figure. Maybe he could just, you know, ask people? Oh, hell no. That would not be nearly horrifying enough.

POPSThe Great Depression Hoax Are we a nation of whiners, as Phil Gramm put it a little while ago? No, the American public is not whining...More likely, though, Americans are just leaving the whining to pundits and trend reporters. Our problem is not whining. It is persuading young people that, with baby boomers retiring, entitlement programs bulging and the world economy growing ever more competitive, now's the time to roll up the sleeves for something other than tattoos. For example, India produces 2.5 million college graduates every year (with concentrations in high demand fields - electronics, programming, engineering, accounting, etc.), and approximately 90,000 MBA's. Nothing against tattoos, but I do feel ignorance and apathy are much too prominent in America. Awareness of ignorance is the first step to wisdom.

POPSAmerica's Broken Infastructure "But the bailout won't solve the longer-term problem, which is threefold: The country doesn't invest enough in transportation infrastructure, it often spends money on the wrong things, and the current gas tax is no longer a viable funding source. Congress will have to address all of these issues when it crafts the next transportation bill." However, I do NOT agree with a vehicle mileage tax. What I'd like to see is corporate welfare and war profiteering abolished. That ought to free up some funds to invest in ourselves for a change.

POPSNews Flash John McCain.... Women are not interchangeable... One size fits all.... I hope women will not vote with anger and throw their important vote away (and our country) in anger. Too much is at stake, our health, education, and future competitiveness in a Global Economy, not to mention the endless wars that we have contributed to in our apathy and foolishness.

POPSGov. Palin Slashed Funds for Unwed Teenage Mothers I really can't understand how a governor could slash funds for teenage unwed mothers unless increasing their hardship is supposed to teach those sinners a lesson. I believe that is about the correct righteous tone that masquerades for apathy and stinginess in "fiscally prudent" circles these days. Of course, if one wants to get really biblical about the matter, one could always consider the significance of "Whatever someone sows that also he reaps" if you get my meaning.

POPSSymptoms of drug abuse Addiction often leads to decline in work performance and struggle in personal relationships. There is a general apathy with addiction, or at least a re-prioritization of your goals, hopes and even relationships. This can cause you to lose interest in things you once enjoyed and likely will make your addiction your first priority. You may choose certain occupations and friendships based on their being compatible or complementary with your addiction to avoid conflict.

POPSWorld Opinion is Worthless "The moment one recognizes "world opinion" for what it is — a statement of moral cowardice, one is longer enthralled by the term. That "world opinion" at this moment allegedly loathes America and Israel is a badge of honor to be worn proudly by those countries. It is when "world opinion" and its news media start liking you that you should wonder if you've lost your way. "

POPSWhen can empathy move us to action? And so cognitive empathy alone is not enough. We also need what Ekman calls "emotional empathy"—when you physically feel what other people feel, as though their emotions were contagious. This emotional contagion depends in large part on cells in the brain called mirror neurons, which fire when we sense another's emotional state, creating an echo of that state inside our own minds. Emotional empathy attunes us to another person's inner emotional world, a plus for a wide range of professions, from sales to nursing—not to mention for any parent or lover.

POPSAnd the end of political apathy. Let's keep it simple, folks. It's not NAFTA or Social Security that will beat McCain. It's 3 dollar milk, shrinking wages, skyrocketing gas prices and a war that has delivered nothing but three dollar milk, shrinking wages and skyrocketing gas prices.

POPSWhy are we as a people so dumb? Seriously you consume sound bites and think it is truth. You consume advertising and opinion shaping and think you are having an original thought. Do you honestly think ANYONE running for office has ANY thing in common with you, a person in the working middle class? “She’s a working mom,” the article says....yeah a multi-millionaire, lying ass elitist that has nothing but contempt for you.... Just so you don't make the mistake thinking I'm biased or a partisan I think the same thing about Obama, McCain, bush and the entire lot of them.... Other than base biological imperatives and basic human mechanical functioning, they have no commonality with the "people" This kind of crap infuriates me, let me say it again. whether you realize it or not...You are a Sharecropper on the corporate plantation. Be awake, look around at the reality of the struggling poor and disappearing middle class and know, your apathy is part of the damn problem.

POPSCounter-terror cops tote machine guns in the subways in new crackdown
Is this really the world you want to live in? I don't by the crap that this is the world we have been given by the "terrorists" this is a world we have allowed those in power to foist upon us; one more example of perpetual infatileism or if you prefer perpetual child hood in which the state takes all of your freedoms in exchange for the perception of safety. We have become weak and pathetic, people gladly laying down their freedoms because of a perceived evil. Here's a bit of news for you...there has always been risk and danger in the natural world, that is what has insured the survival of our species, the ability to confront danger individually and survive, or die trying. Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. --Franklin We are a weak and apathetic people, chasing the illusions of wealth and comfort and willingly giving up our unalienable rights...we WILL live to regret our apathy
