The Revised and Expanded Answers Book
gringotavy
by gringotavy  11-16-2006
I have only read chapter five, so far, but I found it a well-balanced and objective attempt to answer a difficult question that at first sight would appear to invalidate any claim to a young universe.

Reply from An Atheist-Theologian
Antara
by Antara  1-22-2008
Excellent article addressing the Christian apologists who would try and claim that people not versed in Theology "don't get" what is "really" being said. Rubbish says Mark Barratt, who himself has a degree in this very area. The New Atheists are bang on..:) Rest of Article here: http://richarddawkins.net/article,1816,Are-the-New-Atheists-avoiding-the-real-arguments,Edmund-Standing-ButterfliesAndWheelscom

Right Wing Americans are Getting What They Deserve
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  1-15-2007    59
Here's the last bit :) All I can say is that this is what you get for believing even for a moment what the US corporate media wants you to believe. The rest of us Bush haters are Bush haters for one reason and one reason only; we pay attention! So to my new former Bush supporting friends who seem to be suddenly surrounding me and telling me that I have been right all along: you can tell me I was right but after that shut the hell up because it is too late for forgiveness. From now on, just shut up and listen. Think about it! Yeah!! I just had to clip this. I just had to! .:D I'm just gonna have to take the s*** and excuses and apologetics the Bush supporters and neo-con clippers are gonna try to give me on this, but I don't care. It's most definitely worth it. This clip is for all my fellow "Bush-haters" Enjoy! I did!

I was given hope that here was the definitive article that would wipe away this fog from religion and bring it into the 21st Century. It promised to disprove atheist claims using reason and science. Now, of course there are no atheist claims to disprove, but it makes for good rhetoric. (Note: atheism is non-belief, not a system of belief). Well, don't hold your breath waiting for any type of definitive rational for believing in a deity here. As they say, this article is all sizzle and no steak.

"Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind."--Matthew 22:37 MKJV Faith isn't blind acceptance of tradition. True Christian faith is an act of the intellect and of the will, as well as the heart. It springs from realizing that human intellect can never explain everything, and can never know everything. There are always facts of existence that are beyond our grasp, and that is where God is. To believe otherwise strikes me as the height of arrogance. For far better thoughts on this than mine, start here: http://www.apologetics.org/articles/pascal.html

some thoughts on the status of educated Christians
perryia_pk
by perryia_pk  4-11-2007
My observation agrees with the author. My own theological education is very weak even after attending church regularly for 20 years. Why is this...How important it is depends upon the development not only of the mind through the educational process of ideas, but the spiritual input of God's truths within our being to become a part of who we are and not just a list of proper theological doctrines.

Bible Contradiction Not Explained Away
diskovilante
by diskovilante  12-14-2006    2
The reasoning given to explain away this contradictoin does not hold up. The Christian conception of god had her omniscient. This means she would know about the Fall before the Fall occured. Therefore, god's change of mind about her creation could not have occurred since she would have known in advance that her creation would fill her with pain. VERDICT: Bad reasoning. The contradiction does not go away.
