POPSWhat is the power of things we hold dear? "In the interest of enriching these connections, Turkle pairs each autobiographical essay with a text from philosophy, history, literature, or theory, creating juxtapositions at once playful and profound."

POPSThe Do-Good Imperative How about a windup flashlight crossed with a cell phone charger? It's low tech meets high tech with rugged, toylike charm. Or charcoal made from plant waste instead of wood, developed for Haiti by MIT's D-Lab? Talk about a greener way to barbecue. (The technology might also help save endangered African gorillas. A new study published in Science links organized crime rings cutting trees for charcoal in Congo with a spate of recent gorilla murders.)

POPSHeat changing paint By applying a certain type of Eclipse paint, the finish will change from one color to another—white to blue, black to green, black to Apple Red Candy—whenever heat is applied.

POPSOK, Apple, I Give Up So two months ago, the night of iPhone's i-day I stood in line in Stroudsburg, PA, with a letter carrier, a nursing teacher and a foreman from the Hunts Point Market and plunked down $600 for an iPhone. Now, two months later, I discover I've been had by Apple. But wait, all is not lost. Why alienate a loyal Apple-user like myself? Because you can? Perhaps. But here's a solution: give each of us a gift certificate for $200, or oh heck ok, $100, toward purchase of ANOTHER Apple product in the next 6 months. Your markup is clearly enough to cover that, and we'll all go home happy. Maybe you'll even sell another new laptop or iPod!

POPSApple Macbook Air When I saw this I started drooling and (nearly) headed straight to Ebay. So here are some pics. Note however the "fatal flaw" according to Gizmodo. You can't open it up. To be honest, I don't really see that as an issue. I think many laptop owners, especially those that go for eye-candy never go near the inside of their laptop, or change the battery.

POPSBloating 17" MacBook Pro batterries - Another cell recall on the way? Up until a couple days ago I would have said "hahaha, fuck mac!" but after the introduction of EMI's DRM-free music to iTunes, I'm feeling a bit more sympathetic... I even downloaded Quicktime and iTunes, made an iTunes account, and may even buy an iPod... if only they'd stop naming their i-shit like that.

POPSradiohead live setup technical stuff i don't understand but like to make note of... and just to refute the idea that this is an apple-only operation, i would like to note that there was a vaio amidst the macbooks onstage.

POPSI'd Rather Rent With the cost of home networks and high-def TVs plummeting, I don't think too many people are interested in "owning" digital copies of movies, and many people no longer want to collect hard copies of movies (DVDs) either. People won't pay extra for digital, they merely want to pay a few bucks to watch a wide selection of movies (in HD!) on demand through a set-top box or device that's connected to the Internet. Rent, not own.
