POPS $99 iPhone At Walmart? Remember not too long ago the rumors that Apple was planning to sell its iPhone, at Walmart and Sam’s Club starting Dec. 28? And now that the iPhone is arguably more important as phone than iPod, 4GB doesn’t seem like a drawback when you’re getting the best-selling smartphone in the nation for a single Benjamin Franklin.

POPSSteve Jobs didn't invent the iPod? A hoax? A British citizen, Kane Kramer, now lays claim to the invention; he claims he did so back in 1979. In reading the pdf document, it seems like something feasible only with the internet, which was only available en mass since the early 1990s (so his central server idea holds no water with me). I am calling this a hoax.

POPSiPhone Games Potential I think iPhone-like devices, i.e. big touch screen, connectivity, good processor, etc. are going to be a HUGE platform for games (an nearly everything else we do on computers). Big Duh!, but some people do not think so. Google's Android platform will be even better because it is so open. I do not think of these devices as cell phones. They are mobile computers that happen to make calls too.

POPSIPOD AD VISIBLE FROM SPACE This seems pretty amazing that it harnesses the power of Google Earth to deliver an advertisment that too two years to complete

POPSJapan orders Apple to investigate exploding iPod nanos Oh dear, just when we thought we'd had our fill of exploding Apple devices, along comes an Australian forum member named eeno who saw his first generation iPod nano go up in flames, and has some snuff-esque pics of the aftermath. As is usually the case with these things, eeno's iPod was charging when it happened. He says the force of the battery's explosion sent the iPod off his PC onto the floor, where it continued to smoke and spark until he unplugged the USB charging cable from the back of his computer. Since his iPod is out of warranty, the local computer repair shop didn't do him much good, but they did take a few pics to send to Apple. Hopefully this iPod was just an anomaly, and we won't be seeing a whole wave of these explosions as 1G nanos exit their warranties and head towards retirement -- but somehow we fear the worst.
