Three White People Who Won't Be Voting For Barak Obama
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  8-27-2008    33
People still keep talking about how racism among "working class whites" (that's media code for "po' white trash") will not vote for Obama because he is black. I'm getting seriously tired of this. Working class people in America aren't any more racist than the class of Americans who are too wealthy to work. Sure, there are some people who are racist and won't vote for him, and that shocks people so it gets a lot of attention. But seriously, look at these three guys: do you think they vote AT ALL? (remember, something like 60% of America doesn't!) Nobody is talking about all the working class whites who had trouble voting for John Kerry or Al Gore. If Obama loses, it will be because of the pathetic Democratic Party itself, not because he is black.

Consumer Protectionism May Hurt Your Local Thrift Store
DizzyDezzi
by DizzyDezzi  1-7-2009    1
How difficult will it be to find second hand children's clothes in the next year? Will your favorite second hand store or your local thrift store be forced out of business due to a new law that says certain children's clothes (for kids 12 and younger) will now (all) have to be tested before sold (although, giving them away may be allowable)? There was too much to clip, but a lot of interesting and important information at the original site. Thanks to my girl, betmo (http://betblue.blogspot.com/2009/01/poor-folks-screwed-again.html) and my friend John G for the heads up!

Franken is the Official Winner -- Unofficially
Wisco
by Wisco  1-5-2009
The problem is that, according to Minnesota law, nothing can be certified while legal challenges are still in the works. It's hard to find fault with that -- it seems like a pretty common sense provision to me. But it's frustrating as all hell that the 2008 elections still aren't over. Coleman's suit to bring in some 650 challenged ballots was turned down by the Minnesota Supreme Court, but is almost certain to be appealed to the federal level. So, officially, we can start saying Senator Franken. But we can't say incumbent Senator Franken. Confusing? You bet.

70% Fewer Reporters Covering Legislature than 15 Years Ago
iulawboy
by iulawboy  12-19-2008
That traditional news gathering is abandoning political reporting certainly is news, but it does not account for the rise of the professional (or talented armature) blogger who do more than commentary but actually gather news. Nor does it take into account that interest groups are more able to keep their members informed about what is going on legislatively than they have in the past.

Day 9 of the War, Sunday, January 4, 2009
merrie
by merrie  1-4-2009
The daughter-in-law arrived at the family's home an hour before the bombing. When Nizar Riyan saw that she arrived, he laughed and asked her, "why did you come, do you want to die as a "shihada" (a martyr)?" Of course, she answered in the affirmative. A bit later, Riyan and his children swapped jokes about death and martyrdom. Riyan complained that his children aren't prepared to die with him, yet the stated they were prepared. "We will live together, or die together", his children said. His youngest son said that he wassn't willing to live without his father, so he also wanted to die a martyr like is father, and enter paradise in the afterlife. Afterwards, some of his children said that the bodies of the casualties are taken to the morgue and kept in a freezer. "I want to be buried right after I'm killed, so I can go straight to heaven", said Riyan. Afterwards, his daughter-in-law left the house, and the house was bombed by the IAF, killing Riyan and his family.

Yes, you were. Dog: By people who starved me. Me: Oh, no. I am not doing this again. Me: *exits the room, bearing sweet potato* Me: Oh, for the love of GOD. So maybe that's just - um. A birthmark. Me: Did you seriously eat a whole sweet potato? Dog: You don't listen. I told you, I wasn't eating a

Stupid Republican and Democrat arguments
lifecyce1898

Obama reaching across the isle to discriminate. 7 Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children. 8 Being gay is disgusting. Which is why lesbian porn isn't a 3.5 billion dollar a year industry. 9 Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America. 10 Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children. (Obama is the proof for this one) 11 Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

(last picture) With only 8,000 of an estimated 3 million bacterial species identified, new bugs aren't hard to find. But unlike Chryseobacterium greenlandensis, they don't usually date from the late Pleistocene. Unthawed from ice recovered two miles below the surface of a 120,000-year-old Greenland glacier, C. greenlandensis appears unchanged by its time in deep-freeze. Its discoverers aren't sure whether it shut down or just slowed down its metabolism.
