POPSHollywood Blues: Upcoming Film About Chess Records Months ago I exclaimed, Beyonce as Etta James! OMG, self-conscious actress = disaster. Etta is one of my favorite singers, right up there with Big Mama Thornton, Aretha Franklin, and Billie Holiday. I wondered if Beyonce the actress, too concerned with image and "prettiness," could convey the toughness and soul of Etta. According to director Darnell Martin, Beyonce, "goes to that dark place," and "forgets who she is." I haven't read any reviews, except for this article which is enthusiastic. Hope it's in theaters when I get back to the States. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/cadillacrecords/

POPSArizona deputies arrest people for applauding dissent Fanatical anti-immigrant sheriff has turned Supervisors' meetings into clampdown on dissent. Those who briefly applaud officially-recognized speakers who disagree with the Sheriff are arrested. Intimidation of dissent appears to be the plan.

POPSMilitary Preparing for "Civil Unrest"--Bank Runs Included This is consistent with previous clips predicting such. Note especially, per prediction experts like Gerald Celente in an earlier clip, who said to expect such in early 2009: runs on beleaguered banks. This article centers on Arizona, and Obama just appointed the former Gov. of Arizona, Janet Napolitano to Homeland Security (tyranny) secretary replacing Michael Chertoff.

POPSWatch Online Twilight Movie, Bella Swan has always been a little bit different. Never one to run with the crowd, Bella never cared about fitting in with the trendy, plastic girls at her Phoenix, Arizona high school. When her mother remarried and Bella chooses to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she didn't expect much of anything to change

POPS McCain Distances Himself from Governor Palin One also notices that he has spent considerable time recently defending president-elect Barack Obama on a wide range of issues, especially on the Blagojevich corruption scandal. The above all fits perfectly into the notion that McCain is trying to salvage his reputation as a centrist Republican, willing to reach across the aisle. Endorsing Palin would hamper this attempt somewhat due to her reputation as a hardliner, a true card carrying member of the Republican Party’s Christian conservative base. As such, his reaction to Stephanopoulous should be interpreted as nothing more, or less, than an attempt of a man who lost the presidential election to restore his image and to continue being relevant in Washington, D.C.

POPSShedding Light on Dark Matter Dark matter and dark energy have often gotten a bum rap. They have been accused of everything from altering cellular structure*, to speeding the expansion of the universe. I think further investigation is needed before we sully Dark Matter's good name. *X-Files "Soft Light" Second Season

POPS A Date Which Will Live In Infamy— On December 7, 1941, Japanese military forces attacked the United States naval fleet anchored at Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The surprise attack nearly devastated the American Pacific fleet. Three cruisers, three destroyers, and eight battleships along "Battleship Row" were severely damaged, and two battleships, the Oklahoma and the Arizona, were sunk. Additionally, nearly 350 American warplanes on Oahu were destroyed, virtually all that were on the ground. Over 2,400 U.S. servicemen lost their lives, and nearly 1,200 were wounded. The success of the daring attack severely impaired America's ability to check the expansion of the Japanese empire in the Pacific during the first years of WWII.

POPSWho Killed the Electric Car? The EV-1 CHRIS PAINE: We flew over General Motors, and looking down, we could see right next to the racetrack where the EV-1 was first tested, we saw, I don’t know, maybe fifty EV-1s, crushed and put on top of semi flatbeds right next to the yellow crusher. General Motors is almost finished off, I think. I don’t imagine there’s very many EV-1s left that haven’t been crushed out. It’s pretty sad.

POPSHate Crimes in 2007 Mississippi = 0, a surprising outcome. Does it mean agencies don't report them? Or are people the most tolerant down there now due to the huge attention Mississippi got from history and Hollywood?
