POPSThe Best Interests Of The Child "The new law also interferes with the Department of Human Services’ ability to do its job of making individualized assessments of prospective parents and placing children in the homes that are best able to meet their needs. And because of the shortage of foster parents, the ban is very likely to make children wait substantially longer for a loving home."

POPSBush Pardons Criminals, But Not Border Agents Why? Who is really being protected? The "rule of law" is entirely arbitrary, as it was also under Clinton. The rumors and evidence about Bush-Clinton drug ties continue to be given credence in actions like this. Border agents get jailed, while drug dealers get pardoned. Maybe someone should follow the money. Presidential pardons, from the Founders, were designed only to be used to pardon or forgive offenses against the Executive or Government, not for arbitrary purposes.

POPS'Barack the Magic Negro' Derision, disrespect, division and hate are all the GOP have left. Saltsman was national campaign manager for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's presidential bid in 2007 and 2008. Before that, he held a variety of posts, including a number of positions under former Sen. Bill Frist of Tennessee.

POPSStewart to Huckabee: At What Age Did You Choose Not To Be Gay? For over seven minutes last night, Jon Stewart grilled former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee on his opposition to gay marriage. Huckabee is touring the country to promote his new book, "Do The Right Thing." When Stewart compared gay marriage bans to interracial marriage bans, Huckabee restated his view that homosexuality is simply a behavior choice:

POPSAs Big Three face woes, Obama plans luxury holiday vacation How is it that person whose home state becomes representative of Illinois? How is it that was woman who lived in Arkansas, educated in the NE, becomes senator of NY when she has never lived there? How is it that an inexperienced woman, a child of Camelot, native New Englander, aspires to a New York senate seat? Malarky I call it.

POPSHate Crimes in 2007 Mississippi = 0, a surprising outcome. Does it mean agencies don't report them? Or are people the most tolerant down there now due to the huge attention Mississippi got from history and Hollywood?

POPSAnti-Gay, Anti-Family Even before the law passed, the state estimated that it had only about a quarter of the foster parents it needed. Beginning on Jan. 1, a grandmother in Arkansas cohabitating with her opposite-sex partner because marrying might reduce their pension benefits is barred from taking in her own grandchild; a gay man living with his male partner cannot adopt his deceased sister’s children. Social conservatives are threatening to roll out Arkansas-style adoption bans in other states. And the timing couldn’t be worse: in tough economic times, the numbers of abused and neglected children in need of foster care rises. But good times or bad, no movement that would turn away qualified parents and condemn children to a broken foster care system should be considered “pro-family.”

POPSProp 8 plays in a movie theatre near you.... "...after his Gus van Sant-directed biopic opens in theatres, some of which are owned by Cinemark Corp, whose CEO Alan Stock donated $9,900 to help pass California's Prop 8." Let's see, Stock and the Mormons give a gazillion dollars to support this thing, yet, the movie theatres are showing the film on Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist?

POPSObama Names Bill Clinton to Presidential Post "I am pleased that Bill Clinton has agreed to come out of retirement to head up this crucial post in my administration," said Obama. "He brings a lifetime of previous executive experience as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, and has worked closely with most of the members of my Cabinet." "Let's face it, it's obvious I'm in way over my head here," explained Obama. "Anyone paying attention knows I am a disaster waiting to happen, and who can blame them? I mean, just look at the stock market. That's why I think it's in the best interest of the country that I hand over the reins to people who, whatever their ethical shortcomings, at least have a faint clue about what they're doing. While the naming of Clinton appears to have momentarily calmed jittery financial markets, it sparked ripples of disapproval at liberal websites like Huffington Post and DailyKos.

POPSGoogle Follows Flu Trends by your Key Stroaks There is a new common symptom of the flu, in addition to the usual aches, coughs, fevers and sore throats. Turns out a lot of ailing Americans enter phrases like “flu symptoms” into Google and other search engines before they call their doctors. That simple act, multiplied across millions of keyboards in homes around the country, has given rise to a new early warning system for fast-spreading flu outbreaks, called Google Flu Trends.

POPSMajor Quake Watch Has Internet Buzzing A geologist predicted a major earthquake on the West Coast in December on Coast-to-Coast radio this week. First hour guest, geologist Jim Berkland spoke about earthquakes. There's an 85% probability of seismic activity during the window of Dec. 12 -13th, 2008, due to a full moon and very high tides InstaPundit has been making similar posts about a midwest earthquake possibility. The Reuters article clipped here shows that the New Madrid fault (which has been silent since the 1800s) they fear is due. Another 6.3 quake rocked Sumatra (remember the Tsunami two Decembers ago) today, Nov. 22nd. Others may want to add other news or prediction reports to comments as they appear.

POPSReferenda: Good News for Women, Bad for Gays Good on them. However, several states cast votes that they'll eventually regret. In California, Prop. 8 wins . Marriage equality is dead in California -- the same is true of measures in Arizona and Florida. In Arkansas, gays are banned from adopting or becoming foster parents . That's a shame -- literally. These are attitudes we'll all look back at with shame.

POPSFreedom for All? Big Religion won yesterday in California. After spending $74 million they had the dubious distinction of stripping a minority of the right to get married. Californians have nothing to be proud of in this bigoted piece of legislation.

POPS"A Great Victory"? It's incredible that in the 21st Century we're passing laws to deprive people of a certain group of their rights. It's incredible that in the 21st Century we're using secular law to force religious beliefs on people. The struggle continues to allow freedom for all people.

POPSThe Reign of Lame Falls Mainly on McCain The winner is Obama because now he can start hanging out in public with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright again. John McCain is a winner because he can resume buying more houses. And for only the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama was proud of her country. And we're all winners because we will never again have to hear McCain say, "my friends." After Bill Clinton won the 1992 presidential election, Hillary Clinton immediately announced that, henceforth, she would be known as "Hillary Rodham Clinton." So maybe Obama can now become B. Hussein Obama, his rightful name. For now, we have a new president-elect. In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president. Starting tomorrow, if not sooner.
