POPS"Honor Killings" In America but multiculturalism hits a crossroads when honor killings come to America. The United States has avoided this bloodstained trend until recently. Some consider Kanwal's death the first documented honor killing here. Others point to the murder of sisters Amina and Sarah Said in Irving, Texas, on New Years' 2007. (Their MySpace page remains up. Featuring assimilated teen culture and American music, it is haunting.) Their father remains on the run from police. In upstate Monroe County just a few days ago, a girl was stabbed by her brother for wearing immodest western clothing and wanting to move to New York City. According to court documents, Waheed Allah Mohammad explained the stabbing by saying his sister was a "bad Muslim girl." "Honor killing is a misnomer," author and exile Ayaan Hirsi Ali told me. "The killing occurs because these girls have allegedly brought shame on their family. The paradox is that these are individuals who have emancipated themselves.

POPSUK: 3,000 Girls forced into Marriage "Of course, there are thousands of arranged marriages happening in Britain each year but that is very different, as both partners in these are willing participants. "We are talking about girls being very much coerced into those marriages, often not knowing beforehand who their husbands will be, and then having little or no rights once they are married. Most of them feel there is simply no one they can turn to.' Labour MP Margaret Moran, who helped set up the study in her constituency of Luton South, said she was shocked by the scale of abuse which they had uncovered. "It's uncomfortable for people to think about, but it can't remain this hidden any longer. "It's not simply about Muslim families; we also found that it happens among Chinese and African communities too, such as the Somali families. Nor is it something that comes across with new immigrants. ...Guardian

POPSAyaan Hirsi Ali - an Islam Story The interviewer is one of those 'unbiased' media guys. But the woman is great, especially considering her past and sentiments. The interesting thing is that this woman is black, brought up under islamic rule, lived in various countries (none of which I've been to... except for Canada) and yet she has exact same sentiments on America as me, although I'm a white man from former USSR. Very different upbringing, lives, ethnicity etc., similar only in the fact that she's seen something else and is an immigrant to the US, and she has the exact same sentiments.

POPSbritain's pakistani's deliberately have disabled kids how's that for a tantalising headline ...i work in this area in Australia and am sick of the deliberate risk that families take, and the burden put upon the community to eventually accommodate the disabled. And it's not cultural, couples take HUGE risks while pregnant with drugs and just smoking cigarettes. So please, think about it!

POPSFamilies must help catch 'honour' killers Massoud Shadjareh, of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, said the Muslim community should not be demonised for forced marriages. "Domestic violence happens in every community, and forced marriages are also a feature in Sikh and Hindu communities," he said.

POPSFamily Details Troubled Life Of Man Behind Rampage But then, he said, a Jewish watchdog group stole her away in the dead of night and returned her to her family. Shortly afterward, he was sent to prison for a year, for what other family members and police said were drug-related charges. “The problems started after he was in jail. After he came out of jail, he was always alone. … He is a good man, but after prison, he was confused and nervous,” his cousin said. However, his family arranged a marriage with a young woman from his village, and they now have two young sons. Israeli police spent Wednesday afternoon interrogating his family but then left, and have said they believe he was acting alone.

POPS Rest In Peace, Benazir "It seems to me a certain humility is appropriate." The State Department geniuses thought they had it all figured out. They'd arranged a shotgun marriage between the Bhutto and Sharif factions as a "united" "democratic" "movement" and were pushing Musharraf to reach a deal with them. That's what diplomats do: They find guys in suits and get 'em round a table. But none of those representatives represents the rapidly evolving reality of Pakistan. Miss Bhutto could never have been a viable leader of a post-Musharraf settlement, and the delusion that she could have been sent her to her death. Earlier this year, I had an argument with an old (infidel) boyfriend of Benazir's, who swatted my concerns aside with the sweeping claim that "the whole of the western world" was behind her. On the streets of Islamabad, that and a dime'll get you a cup of coffee. We should be modest enough to acknowledge when reality conflicts with our illusions.

POPS "Prophet" Jeffs Attempted Suicide? Polygamous-sect leader tried to hang himself in jail in January, eight months before a jury convicted him of rape as an accomplice, according to documents released Tuesday. The disclosure was in an evaluation by mental-health expert Eric Nielsen, who examined Warren Jeffs in April and found him depressed but fit for trial.
