POPS12-year-old Kim is the World's Youngest Transsexual. I have mixed feelings about this particular situation. I am not personally comfortable with the idea of having a child of such a tender age making a decision of such a monumental nature. I am also concerned about dealing with hormonal development during puberty. But, I am not a doctor, and all I can do is with the best of luck to Kim and his family.

POPShomeowner arrested after burglar falls Van Helsing asks the million dollar question at the end....we CAN'T protect ourselves if the government sides with the criminals. And Hillary, in her senior thesis at Yale, explored the possibility of gangs helping turn the political tide. Her mentor had experience with that - with Al Capone...

POPSLosing the War “Fighting Al Qaeda involves a security side and an ideological side. The security side is successful, but the other side of combating Al Qaeda is ideological and it is not successful.” al Qaeda's goal here is fairly clear. The present world power structure is largely built on the backs of a U.S./Saudi agreement of sorts wrt oil and investments. The weakest link is in Saudi Arabia (closer to the radicalized population) and that weakness is now being exploited. They believe if they take the present Saudi government down then they bring the U.S. down with it. Energy independence never looked so good (and the war in Iraq never looked so stupid).

POPS Who's Enabling Burma's Junta? Within minutes, recalls Niang, a 47-year-old gem dealer, riot squads appeared; three truckloads of soldiers began to dismount and, without warning, opened fire. "We saw people fall down and saw blood in the street," Niang told me on the phone from her home. "Everyone was running. It was terrible." The last time Burma saw such widespread protests was in 1988, when pro-democracy student activists took to the street. The government answered in full force, massacring 3,000 and arresting many more.

POPSGimme That Ole Time Religion I wonder if anyone else would have been extended the courtesy of finishing their work before being arrested for murder, rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and incest? But then again, according to sources, he was a "bulls-eye prophet". Whatever that means.

POPSMale Army Major revealed as female con-artist Being queer rocks in my world. Conning people - not so much. Still, here's to all who belong to Colonel Barker's monstrous regiment! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Colonel-Barkers-Monstrous-Regiment-Husbandry/dp/1860498930) I guess Jackie Kay's 'Trumpet' should also get an honourable mention at this juncture!

POPSA Credit Crisis or a Collapsing Ponzi Scheme?
the scheme is exposed, because when legal authorities begin examining accounting records of the so-called enterprise they find that many of the 'assets' that should exist do not." here’s where we are today. The promoters have clearly not vanished as in outcome 1. In fact, they are behaving as if they know they have nothing to fear. We are definitely seeing all the signs of outcome 2: the scheme is collapsing under its own weight; there are panic runs around the globe wherever Wall Street has left its footprint. outcome 3 Instead of arresting the perpetrators and shutting down the schemes, Federal authorities have developed their own new schemes and pumped over $2 trillion of taxpayer money into propping up the firms while leaving the schemers in place. Equally astonishing, Congress has not held any meaningful investigations. This has left many Wall Street veterans wondering if the problem isn’t that the firms are “too big to fail” but rather “too Ponzi-like to prosecute.

POPSComic-Blogging Beirut Mazen Kerbaj is a Lebanese-born artist comic-blogging the aerial bombardment from his home in Beirut. Every day he uploads a new sketch or commentary to his blog , assuming electricity and internet are working that day. His arresting style and somewhat fatalistic mood make for a strikingly personal look into the war. I clipped a few of his best drawings.
