POPSThe "scary" bikers of Rescue Ink have just saved 180 abandoned kittens The guy in the photo is Batso, one of the Rescue Ink members. At 74 years old he's still an imposing figure, sporting body art from some of the most highly regarded tattoo artists in the world. Batso is a dedicated martial artist and weight lifter, who holds a Connecticut state record in power lifting. Growing up, Batso cared for sheep, goats, as well as poultry, and began developing a lifelong love and respect for animals. Animal abuse is something that Batso cannot, and will not tolerate. Among his close friends Batso counts Inky, a rescued pit bull that had been abandoned, and his iguana George. I love the photo. As one commenter said, "The guy and the kitten have the same expression on their faces!"

POPS"Innerspace" the artistic landscapes of nano-scale worlds Most artists use a paintbrush or a camera, but Michael Oliveri sometimes prefers a scanning electron microscope. The University of Georgia digital media professor finds inspiration in science, from organic chemistry to space exploration. In his recent project "Innerspace," he explores the landscapes of nano-scale worlds where objects are up to 1,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. beautiful. The samples Oliveri captures come from University of Georgia materials scientist Zhengwei Pan, who creates nanowires and other puny structures that may one day lead to miniscule electronics. Pan heats metals up to temps so hellish that they turn into vapor. Then the metals settle down to form rods, spheres and other shapes. Oliveri combines up to 40 smaller images to create his panoramas, which resemble familiar cornfields and underwater vistas.

POPS9: Upcoming Tim Burton Animated Film Release date 9.9.09 The group includes 1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Martin Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Crispin Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave warrior. I like Acker’s unique art style which could be described as a darker/post apocalyptic version of what Tim Burton use to do, with a touch of LittleBigPlanet

POPSVisual Alchemist & Psychedelic Artist Defined A Generation Alton Kelley, whose psychedelic concert posters for artists like the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Big Brother and the Holding Company helped define the visual style of the 1960s counterculture, died on Sunday at his home in Petaluma, Calif. He was 67. Mr. Kelley and Stanley Mouse, combined sinuous Art Nouveau lettering and outré images plucked from sources near and far to create the visual equivalent of an acid trip. They formed Mouse Studios: Mouse said they could work for hours in silence. "We knew what to do, we didn't have to talk." Kelley had the unique ability to translate the music being played into these amazing images that captured the spirit of who we were and what the music was all about. He was a visual alchemist — skulls and roses, skeletons in full flight, cryptic alphabets, nothing was too strange for his imagination to conjure.

POPSArtists stage street scenes to lurk in Google maps Like many first-time Street View users, Kinsley and Hewlett, then roommates, typed in their address and found their house. Kinsley and Hewlett soon found themselves discussing surveillance and virtual reality, and began considering how they might explore those issues and Street View through art. "But instead of dwelling on the darker undertones of these issues, we began to think about ways of playing with the system," Kinsley said in an e-mail interview from Iceland, where he is participating in an artist residency. The "Street With a View" project was his master of fine arts thesis project at Carnegie Mellon University. "We were interested in interjecting something staged, something fictional, into Street View and playing with - and subtly questioning - the notion of reality in something that we perceive as a factual representation of our world," said Kinsley, 26.
