McCain added the two appointments Alito and Roberts are his recent favorites. When asked does evil exist and if so how would handle it? Ignore it, negotiate with it, confront it or defeat it Obama: verbose, wordy ..... he would confront it but also equivocated on what evil is. "We have to have some humility on the issue on the of confronting". Evil has been been committed in the pursuit of good. *sigh* McCain: "DEFEAT IT" huge applause. McCain went on to describe Radical Islam as the greatest threat of the 21at century. He said he would pursue bin Laden “to the gates of Hell,” Gotta love that. Obama's most important advisers: Michelle (the "proud" wife, the grandmother "a typical white person", and then a bumch of politicians - Ted Kennedy, Nunn, Biden et al McCain's most important advisers: Gen. David Petreaus, head of US troops in Iraq; US Rep. and veteran civil rights leader John Lewis, D-Ga.; and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a top adviser to his campaign.

POPSHe Saw It Coming What economic developments does Roubini see on the horizon? And what does he think we should do about them? The first step, he told me in a recent conversation, is to acknowledge the extent of the problem. “We are in a recession, and denying it is nonsense,” he said. The United States, Roubini went on, will likely muddle through the crisis but will emerge from it a different nation, with a different place in the world. “Once you run current-account deficits, you depend on the kindness of strangers,” he said, pausing to let out a resigned sigh. “This might be the beginning of the end of the American empire.”

POPSJohn McCain Attempts Spin to VFW Audience You can decide for yourself which version is the "better bill". For what its worth, VFW endorsed the Webb-Hagel version and is even awarding Senator Webb a a gold medal and citation of merit for his work on Veterans' education benefits.

POPSThe cognitive neuroscience of magic Magic combines multiple principles of attention, awareness, trust and perception to both overtly and covertly misdirect the audience. Whether they are used for performance art or as a means to illicitly separate victims from their money and valuables, the accomplished performer uses robust and intuitive manipulative devices that are of great interest to neuroscientists pursuing the neural underpinnings of cognition, memory, sensation, social attachment, causal inference and awareness.

POPSBush Ordered Phony Letter Linking Iraq to 9/11 The piece goes on to quote Politico's Mike Allen : According to Suskind, the administration had been in contact with the director of the Iraqi intelligence service in the last years of Hussein’s regime, Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti. “The White House had concocted a fake letter from Habbush to Saddam, backdated to July 1, 2001,” Suskind writes. “It said that 9/11 ringleader Mohammad Atta had actually trained for his mission in Iraq – thus showing, finally, that there was an operational link between Saddam and al Qaeda, something the Vice President’s Office had been pressing CIA to prove since 9/11 as a justification to invade Iraq. There is no link.” The author claims that such an operation, part of “false pretenses” for war, would apparently constitute illegal White House use of the CIA to influence a domestic audience, an arguably impeachable offense.

POPSObama backs some drilling, tapping oil stockpile Putting his finger in the wind. The majority of Americans want drilling, so McCain's 'receptive audience' is the American people. Yes, the policies of the past decades have contributed to this *crisis*, but had he been a part of the Democrat government in Congress all those years, he would have stood with them. But then, he was just a baby and didn't know squat...and now he's an expert?

POPSMr. Murdoch Goes To War This would be music to the ears of any newsroom, so hope mingled with the professional dread in Murdoch’s audience that afternoon. He may be awful, but he is rich and awful, smart and awful, powerful and awful, and while he may well be crazy to still believe in the future of print, he is determined and crazy. Murdoch might be the last person The Journal would have chosen as its savior, but newspapers may well be down to last hopes. What does he see that others do not? What is his vision for one of America’s most venerated dailies? Can he really grow The Journal in such a hostile economic climate? And if he succeeds, might The Wall Street Journal as we know it, and as millions of readers have loved it, cease to exist?

POPSOne World? Berlin Speech Was Radical And Naive Even more basically, challenges to our very civilization, as the Cold War surely was, are not overcome by naively "tearing down walls" with our adversaries. Throughout the Berlin speech, there were numerous policy pronouncements, all of them hazy and nonspecific, none of them new or different than what Obama has already said during the long American campaign. But the Berlin framework in which he wrapped these ideas for the first time is truly radical for a prospective American president. That he picked a foreign audience is perhaps not surprising, because they could be expected to welcome a less-assertive American view of its role in the world, at least at first glance. Even anti-American Europeans, however, are likely to regret a United States that sees itself as just one more nation in a "united" world.
