POPSJoe Klein defends the media's handling of Palin I obviously don't know how this will play out, but i would think that to some extent McCain and Palin's direct assault on the media for its treatment of Palin (which seems so unjustified considering the importance of the issue) could actually backfire. Rather than backing off, could this actually instigate the media to do even further digging as a means to justify their behavior?

POPSBangkok under state of emergency Mr Samak put the army commander, General Anupong Paojinda, in charge of enforcing the state of emergency in the capital. The general now has special powers to: * detain and remove people from any location * deploy troops to help police maintain order * ban gatherings of more than five people * impose restrictions on media reports that could "undermine public security".

POPSNuclear Deal With India Not so fast! New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands are among those who see the need to curb the Nuclear Expansion. America must see the deal for what it is: More Danger and More Nuclear Weapons in a world that needs Alternatives.

POPSPalin She opposes same-sex marriage, but complied with an Alaskan state Supreme Court order and signed an implementation of same-sex benefits into law, stating that legal options to avoid doing so had run out. She supported a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny benefits to homosexual couples. Alaska was one of the first U.S. states to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, in 1998, along with Hawaii. Palin has stated that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment.

POPSPoll: Most Oppose Same-Sex Marriage Ban in CA This despite the polls showing that the public is split on approval of the marriages themselves -- 47%-47%. The lesson here is that you don't have to approve of a practice to recognize someone's right to do it; that's what you call yer "tolerance."

POPSPelosi's Poison Pill Plan on "Energy Independence" Less capital will flow into energy exploration and refinement, supply will be constrained, and prices will rise. Those causal linkages aren't matters of partisan debate; they're simple and incontrovertible matters of economics. Still, as much recognition as Pelosi deserves for championing illogical policies for their own sake, I suspect the inclusion of these punitive measures in her new "plan" serves a simpler purpose. Namely, to make whatever "comprehensive" bill might emerge so unattractive that it will lose the bipartisan support enjoyed by the singular matter of whether or not to permit offshore drilling.

POPS Stop Pelosi Now! Demand Maximum American Energy – Now! Rep. Thaddeus McCotter has a message for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic caucus, and he wanted it delivered at Hot Air. Not surprisingly, then, the Speaker’s latest lethargy proposal apes other energy schemes she’s brought to the House floor without amendment and under a super-majority vote requirement. Desperate to guarantee these bills’ defeats and blame Republicans, the Speaker orchestrated the nauseating spectacle of “Don’t Care” Democrats, who a few months ago wouldn’t vote to drill a tooth, now hugging derricks instead of trees. This time, though, with a month of vacation under her Beltway, Pelosi’s ploy has a new wrinkle. In the media she is floating specious reasons why Republicans will vote against her radical cornucopia of energy insecurity. What she still fails to grasp, as with all her energy scams, is that the public will not be misled.
