POPSWinter in Siberia Photos from a trip across Siberia in January 2006, when the average temperature was -60F. Just thinking of this numbing cold makes my bones ache, but the photos are lovely. Grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and take a look at these photos of winter in Siberia.

POPSChinese Factory Worker Can't Believe The Shit He Makes For Americans
"Sometimes, an item the factory produces resembles nothing I've ever seen," Chen said. "One time, we made something that looked like a ladle, but it had holes in its cup and a handle that bent down 90 degrees. The foreman told us that it was a soda-can holder for an automobile. If you are lucky enough to own a car, sit back and enjoy the journey. Save the soda beverage for later." Chen added: "A cup holder is not a necessary thing to own." Chen expressed similar confusion over the tens of thousands of pineapple corers, plastic eyeshades, toothpick dispensers, and dog pull-toys that he has helped manufacture. "Why the demand for so many kitchen gadgets?" Chen said. "I can understand having a good wok, a rice cooker, a tea kettle, a hot plate, some utensils, good china, a teapot with a strainer, and maybe a thermos. But all these extra things—where do the Americans put them? How many times will you use a taco-shell holder? 'Oh, I really need this silverware-drawer sorter or I wi

POPSChocolate Beer 3000 years old Should Make some. Looks like it was invented before chocolate drinks. I haven't found a recipe, but it could just be a matter of knowing how to brew.

POPS'Beer goggles' are real - it's official As well as changing perceptions of attractiveness, alcohol also encourages us to engage in behaviour we would otherwise avoid. In a study by Robert Leeman of Yale University students reported they were more likely to engage in risky sexual acts after drinking - which could be due to alcohol lowering our inhibitions through a direct effect on the brain or by providing a convenient excuse for such behaviour.

POPS"Clipmarks' Beer Guzzlers Club"
May 28th, 2007 is the official founding day of the the unofficial society; "Clipmarks' Beer Guzzlers Club". We're a secret society (shhhhh...), but it's not like "Skull and Bones", it's more like "We'll jump your Bones", but you get the idea. *LOL* The club celebrates (and therefore of course always toasts to) the love of the World's mightiest and most fun beverage; BEER!. :D I'm Chairwoman and {{betong}} is the Grand Master of Ceremonies and we have countless groupies and secret supporters in our ranks too. New members are automated added (even without their knowledge because we're THAT secret) if they have a clip that in any way mentions beer, so CBGC's true membership numbers are probably equal to that of a smaller European country. (Only the 33rd degree Guzzlers are aware of the precise membership numbers, because we're sooo secret, remember?) Welcome to CBGC and happy one month anniversary Guzzlers! You know who you are! (Some of you at least) Cheers!.

POPSThe contemporary American culture - America's contribution to the World This new series looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 426,000 cell phones retired every day. This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs.

POPSCan Sips at Home Prevent Binges? It would be easy to preach abstinence to children until they’re 21, but is it naive and even irresponsible to think that teenagers won’t experiment? Might forbidding even a taste of wine with a meal actually encourage secrecy and recklessness?

POPSBeer And The Rise Of Civilization Their highest deity was the goddess of beer and fertility. I knew it! I just knew it! He's a she!! Some people totally underestimate the importance of beer in society. It is because of beer, we are even civilized human beings!! If it weren't for beer, omg, we would probably still be hanging from the trees! (Too much beer and we sometimes relive our evolutionary past.) People should have waaay more respect for beer. Contrary to Hamurabi, who often preferred to drown people in beer rather than let them drink it, Nebuchadnezzar lacked that fellow's uptight and secular relationship to the fermented beverage. Instead, more like the Sumerians, he promoted its enjoyment by all. Under his reign, the priestesses could once again drink copious quantities of beer during sacrificial services - to please their gods and to honor their king. I think I might have lived before. *LOL* Praise be to Beer! Cheers folks and have a great weekend.
