No booze, no sugar, no chocolate - no meat, no milk - essentially they really want people to just die off and leave the planet to the harmless and lovely animals. And UN bureaucrats of course.

Pot Advocates Fired Up by Hill Salute to Legal Booze
Andrew Gillies
by Andrew Gillies  9-22-2008
This item, penned by Roll Call's Emily Heil and Elizabeth Brotherton, has a lighthearted tone, but it underscores that alcohol distributors, as we noted here http://www.forbes.com/businessinthebeltway/2006/05/08/beer-tradegroup-lobby-cx_atg_0509beer.html a few years back, are a serious force inside the Beltway. The legislation passed last week lauds legal liquor's generation of "billions of dollars in Federal and Sales tax revenues" annually. With the red ink flood in Washington, maybe legal pot will get a harder look from Congress.

Ringing in Sunday booze sales
finifinito
by finifinito  8-24-2008
When I ran my one campaign for public office in 2000, I ran on the Libertarian Party ticket for Indiana House District 100 on a platform of repealing the Sunday Blue Laws regulating the sale of alcohol and vehicles on Sunday. 8 years later a group has formed to lobby for this much needed change in our laws in Indiana.

Ok, this is funny, but keep those "straight" girls away from me please!!!! I think I agree with the author that they have the potential to offend! Besides, sleeping with your best friend is kinda, well . . . icky. "Don't sleep with your drummer" sounds so much more profound to me.

The 10 Commandments For Drinking Like a Man
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz  6-8-2008
Much like the Bible, there are many more minor rules to the world of drinking, but these are the Big 10, the ones that in a general sense should guide you throughout your journey through this magical world of booze and keep you from temptation and harm. It’s a cold and frightening world out there, but by following these simple rules you definitely have a better chance of emerging unscathed.

Che's Children seek respect not money
righthand
by righthand  6-7-2008    1
A man who fought and died trying to overthrow capitalism and material excess should not be used to sell British vodka, French fizzy drinks and Swiss mobile phones, among other travesties, she said. "We don't want money, we demand respect." Aleida, 47, the eldest of Guevara's four children by his second wife, made the comments during an internet forum sponsored by Cuba's government ahead of what would have been her father's 80th birthday on June 14. The complaint came amid a surge of renewed interest in Guevara. The actor Benicio del Toro won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival this month for his portrayal in Steven Soderbergh's four and a half hour epic Che. Camilo Guevara, a son, who participated in the forum, said he welcomed the film as long as it was faithful to his father's memory.

To Russia For Love
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  4-19-2008
Union. Add to Russia’s demographic bias towards women its rampant alcoholism, high prison numbers and near million-man conscript army and you can understand why it isn’t exactly raining eligible bachelors on the streets of Moscow. British men on the other hand, it would seem, are on the run from female liberation in the UK. All the men I speak to about their other halves said they found the quiet strength and femininity of the Russian women preferable to their pint-downing, man-eating British counterparts. "Russian women are stronger," says Glaswegian David. His Russian wife tells me this stems from perestroika times, when women went out to win the bread leaving their men at home, where they hit the booze. Whether the new economic stability will break them from such a spell is as yet uncertain. But in the meantime, foreign bachelors will have to cater for domestic demand, and it’s the British who seem to be plugging the gap.

Man's Best Bud Deserves Beer
haraya
by haraya  2-3-2007
Kwispelbier currently retails at 7.35 Euros ($9.60) for four bottles plus postage on www.dogbeer.eu. This makes it an expensive tipple when compared to Holland's better-known beer brands which, as yet, have not unveiled plans to move into the pet market. Cats too will soon be able to get their whiskers into something stronger than the usual saucer of milk. Berendsen is planning to launch an as-yet-unnamed beer for felines in 2008. Meow!

The spirits behind the writers
Aribeth
by Aribeth  3-7-2008    1
 >>Intoxication, if not the source of literary creation, creates a cerebral aura congenial to it. It recasts the glare of life in a softer hue. It soothes anxiety and other stultifiers of reflection. It warms the mind and thaws thoughts frozen in timidity. The fruit of the vine does not give us insight but aids our discovery of it; it can allow you to eavesdrop on yourself. The trick is to find the golden mean between exhilarating and dulling the intellect. Cratinus' belief that only bad verses were written without wine seems too appealing to be untrue. But the best verses no doubt arise when, the wine low in the bottle, Dionysus is still steady enough to dance to the tune of Apollo's lyre.<<
