POPSDrop the Charges Against Ben Saari
Read full account at source. “What happened was that I was just finishing the march going past Santa Rosa City Hall and in front of the Court House, the minutemen were out—they’re right-wing racist vigilantes—and they were being protected by the Santa Rosa police department. I got a phone call that cameras and observers were needed at Juilliard Park behind the stage, so I hustled over there. When I got through the crowd to the edge of the park, what I saw was one officer with a very agitated dog amid a crowd of thousands of people. The officer was visibly panicked and shouting at people to back up. There were three other officers with expendable batons employed and they were engaged in a face-off with a group of young people, mostly teenagers. The police weren’t giving any clear or consistent commands. Police approaching from three different directions were shouting to backup. It’s confusing, it’s hard to comply with, you don’t know what’s going on. The police tactics were really conf

POPS" I am Joe Six-Pack. I am not who they think that they are talking to. Are you?" More: Joe is the guy I worked with who served in Vietnam, worked construction, had four kids, thought Portland micro-brews were for hippies and weirdos -- and told me one day about having to change churches, because "our pastor spends all his time talking about how bad the gays are, and I go to church for God, and I really don't think God cares who you sleep with or who you marry." Oh, and he went back to school at 45 to get a degree in architecture, so I guess he won't be Joe Six-Pack soon. His income will put him into that Better Class of People y'all think you're part of. Joe is a writer or an actor or an artist who waits tables, pumps gas, shelves books, does landscaping, delivers pizza, scrubs toilets, and otherwise works his or her ass off all day or night to pay the mortgage so they can continue to write or act or make art.

POPSWho is Joe Six Pack? You think you know? Read this blog, it's really quite funny. Republicans think they know, is it code word as the blog post says. Find out for yourself.

POPS"I'm Barack Obama, and I Approve This Bailout" Both left and right on Main St. oppose the bailout bill, and for good reason. Take a look here at how mad many on the left are. Here is his punch line to the get-a-long Democrats in Congress--call it a hard left hook: To the former, the Democratic Party, I say: your support of this Bill as it stands or in any form that simply hands over money and asks the market to take care of the mess makes you our enemies, not our advocates. ...then he lands one squarely on Obama's jaw: To Barack Obama I say: you are a fraud on public credulity. You are no more a "change" agent than I am the Pope. With your support of this bailout, you have acted in direct contradiction to your promise of change Last chance to call your house rep before they RUIN both the market and the economy with those latest Bailout bill.

POPSJudge Considering Arguments To Block Troopergate probe Wouldn’t legislators who call for an investigation naturally believe something was amiss? Clarkson had hoped to call witnesses. The judge said no. Next to Clarkson sat Scott Hoyt – a Dallas lawyer with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher here on behalf of the Liberty Legal Institute. One point of debate: Did the Senate Judiciary Committee have the proper authority to issue the subpoenas? Maassen said it doesn’t matter whether the Legislature acts through a council or a committee – it still has the same broad powers of investigation. Thomas Van Flein, the lawyer representing Palin her husband Todd, watched from the gallery, along with Sen. Fred Dyson, Rep. John Coghill. Rep. Bob Lynn and Rep. Les Gara.

POPSRolling Over to Rescue the Bailout
contAll of cable and the networks are rolling over for their bellies to be scratched, helping the dodge that the bailout supporters were not really asking for a bailout, only a rescue. See? There was a great deal of hyperventilating last night on most of the talkies and news, sort of an "Oh No! What have we done!" chorus: We misnamed the rescue a bailout. Missing from this steady stream of thumb-sucking was any mention of the substantive reasons voters were outraged. What precisely was in the bailout bill for taxpayers, homeowners, renters? Was there any real cap on the greedy executive compensation packages? Investment in job creation? Rescue for homeowners in foreclosure? Along with the Oh No What Have We Done is the mantra of The Great Credit Freeze: small businesses won't be able to meet payroll; 401k and pension funds are cascading in value; there may not even be money in the ATM machine. The media herd, incredulous that its losing supporters of the bailout, is re-tool

POPSWhat's Up With The Period? What editorial genius do you suppose came up with the idea to call the new WSJ magazine "WSJ-dot"? What's the period for? Is it supposed to be youthful? Are they trying to cater to the illiterate market? Ambiguous punctuation makes me uneasy.

POPSTale of the Two Bracelets My call? McCain unhesitatingly cited the name of the fallen soldier, with passion and commitment. The elitist man-child had to glance at his bracelet for the name on it, then stuttered the name, unfamiliar with it. The insincerity of this showed that the bracelet on his wrist is but another campaign prop, and a sneer to those of us who cling to our guns and religion.

POPSMcCain's Foreign Policy: Global Democratic Gang McCain calls for a "League of Democracies" for the purposes of "peace" but actually for war. Its key principle is "entangling alliances" which George Washington warned against, starting with NATO as its foundation. This is actually an old plan and precisely what the UN is all about except it cuts China and Russia out. This is consistent with George Bush (Bush 41) "new world order" speech where he talked about a United Nations that lives up to the intention of its founders, as he launched Iraq War I. GWB 43 has also made reference to similar principles while already by-passing the UN when it is reluctant to launch a war. Actually it makes little difference, except to show that Russia and China will be cut out of decisions because they will be the new targets of contest under his neocon vision. The call to "make the world safe for democracy" (like Wilson and FDR) has been the foundation of world wars, and likely more.

POPSReid to McCain: Don't Come Back to Capitol 6PDT President Bush updated: requests Obama attend conference in DC tomorrow. 9/25/08 When given an opportunity to serve his nation in a time of severe crisis, Barrack Obama decided that his own personal gain was more important. Stunning! Reid to McCain: Don't Come Back to Capitol September 24, 2008 5:14 PMUPDATE: McCain senior adviser Mark Salter emails: "Yesterday, Harry Reid said that consensus couldn't be achieved without John McCain's leadership. John stepped up and is providing that leadership. Now Senator Reid seems to have changed his mind for reasons we'll let him explain. But what he should understand is that this isn't about Harry Reid or John McCain or Barack Obama. It's about the American people and, in the words of Warren Buffet, the financial Pearl Harbor they're facing. John's committed to doing his part to help avert that calamity. We hope Senator Reid is too." http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/reid-to-mccain.html

POPSUS Asks Germany To Join in Bailout
Nein, say the wise Germans. Still, the financial crisis has already reached German shores, and banks here have had to announce write-downs of nearly €40 billion ($58.5 billion). "German banks are already sufficiently involved in the calamity," says Stefan Kooths of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin. Either way, experts estimate that half of America's bad loans were sold abroad -- and a large part of that was assumed by Germans. And now the money is gone. "There's no reason why Germany should have to bear even more burdens," says Kooths. Experts have also criticized the American rescue package for a number of other reasons. Diemo Dietrich from the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) doesn't think the plan is well-balanced: "The government is only buying bad risks and, in doing so, nationalizing the losses." Dietrich adds that taxpayers won't share in any of the profits that the government hopes the stabilized market will bring about in the long ru

POPSObama rejects McCain's "Hail Mary" debate delay Meanwhile, "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., meanwhile, said McCain’s and Obama’s presence during congressional negotiations over a rescue package would “not be helpful at this time,” saying they would be a distraction. If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now,” Reid said.
