Word wrap bookmarklet for Firefox
Kore7
by Kore7  9-17-2006    4
I keep losing this superb bookmarklet, but now it's clipped for eternity! If you've never used bookmarklets in Firefox before, copy the code above into a new bookmark, and save it to some place handy like the toolbar. Then the next time you come across a page whose text extends off the right side ( like this one ), just click the bookmarklet, and voilà ...it's reformatted on the fly. No more sidescrolling. (I tried to create a one-click install link in the comments but I couldn't get around the bullet-proof defenses of coder EricW. Curses! :) )

Debian Operating Systems
pokkets
by pokkets  2-22-2008
The latest release Debian 4.0r3 Etch (4.0 revision 3) was released on Feb 17. It contains a base system CD and 3 DVDs containing 18,000 free programs in 'Debian Packages' The programs in these packages can easily be installed and removed with the debian package manager. There are regular updates so packages can automatically be replaced with newer versions. When I started, the whole idea of a new operating system seemed hard to fathom, but it occurred to me that when I started with windows, I was at least as blind. The idea of having a wide range of programs at my fingertips, with the ability to try them and remove them with no catches if they were not what I wanted, was enough to make me switch, and I've been amazed at what I have found, generally developed and tested by people who wanted to contribute to an improvement. Now I have the ability to control the core of my system, and it's great motivation to learn about how a program really works.

The ‘Useful Idiots’ Of Militant Islam
merrie
by merrie  4-20-2008
Saudi-funded publications admonish Muslims in America “to dissociate from infidels, hate them for their religion, never to rely on them for support, and always oppose them in every way according to Islamic law.” The question: how was it that among the estimated five million Muslim Americans with hugely varied institutions, the president’s advisors picked a Saudi Islamofascist ghetto as a venue? A major New York Times Magazine article argued fervently on behalf of “Islamic democrats” singing the praises of a reborn Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. An essay in Foreign Affairs, a weighty establishment publication titled “The Moderate Muslim Brotherhood.” Mild Islamism is an oxymoron. Sharia law, which sanctions beating of wives and stoning for adultery, is irreconcilable with human rights. The Muslim Brotherhood founded Hamas, calls suicide bombings a good thing, and is the 21st-century version of the organized fascism of Hitler and Mussolini in the last century.
