Michael Phelps Is Off To A Roaring Start, Wins Gold, Sets World Record
merrie
by merrie  8-10-2008
Phelps' victory in a world-record time of 4 minutes 3.84 seconds was thoroughly convincing -- and quite possibly utterly demoralizing to those audacious enough to think they can stop him. Second to Laszlo Cseh of Hungary after the first 50 meters and second to Lochte at the 150-meter mark, Phelps sliced through the water with unmatched power to take the lead halfway through the four-stroke race. Popping up from the water while the crowd roared and fans waved American flags, Phelps pointed the index fingers of each hand skyward, beads of water sliding off his back, and then pumped his left fist. His face was wet, possibly from water and possibly from a few stray tears. It was impossible to tell the difference. The roar intensified as he climbed out of the pool and crossed the deck, swirls of red, white and blue in the hands of fans from every nation and both Presidents Bush, current and former.

Joe Biden Defends Obama Against GOP Distortion
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  7-17-2008
Why hasn't Obama held any subcommittee hearings on Afghanistan asks GOP Senator Jim DeMint? Because we hold them here in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Democratic Sen. Joe Biden fires back, and you know that. Biden catches DeMint trying to make a political cheap shot. That's my state Senator coming at you, Jim boy!

Study blows whistle on ref's fitness.
pokkets
by pokkets  7-1-2008
The referee must keep up with the fastest player, for the whole match. The players take turns to score points, and spread the load between the team. The referee not only has to keep up, but never take their eye off the ball. Not only that, if a team loses, they can get the blame. If you can't play become a referee? More like the other way around.

The ‘Useful Idiots’ Of Militant Islam
merrie
by merrie  4-20-2008
Saudi-funded publications admonish Muslims in America “to dissociate from infidels, hate them for their religion, never to rely on them for support, and always oppose them in every way according to Islamic law.” The question: how was it that among the estimated five million Muslim Americans with hugely varied institutions, the president’s advisors picked a Saudi Islamofascist ghetto as a venue? A major New York Times Magazine article argued fervently on behalf of “Islamic democrats” singing the praises of a reborn Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. An essay in Foreign Affairs, a weighty establishment publication titled “The Moderate Muslim Brotherhood.” Mild Islamism is an oxymoron. Sharia law, which sanctions beating of wives and stoning for adultery, is irreconcilable with human rights. The Muslim Brotherhood founded Hamas, calls suicide bombings a good thing, and is the 21st-century version of the organized fascism of Hitler and Mussolini in the last century.

Olbermann Catches Hillary/Obama in Neocon Talk for New Middle East
blueridge
by blueridge  4-19-2008    1
They both shilled for neocon propaganda, contrary to the most recent National Intel Estimate which says that Iran has been deterred on nukes, and Hillary proposed a middle east "umbrella" (read NATO-like alliance) for military intervention, very similar to McCain's. There is no real choice, in foreign policy, or big spending, in the 3 candidates. WARS will continue, and here is the evidence. Both shill for Israel blatantly. (Hillary: 'Oh Israeli Lobby--please let me be President, listen to my hawkish war speak on defense of Israel and against Iran, despite the lack of evidence!')
