POPSTypewriter Art This is an amazing story of a man born with spastic cerebral palsy. Though disabled in many ways, he taught himself to create detailed pictures using one finger on a typewriter that resembled pencil or charcoal drawings. Another tribute to the indomitable human spirit.

POPSA Democrat Knows That the Leaf Turns: Garrison Keillor A great read. Here's a bit more... "The rescue squad can get to you anywhere in St. Paul in four minutes or less. That is official policy...And the four-minute-or-less response represents the nature of our civil compact here in St. Paul: if you urgently need help, someone will be there before panic sets in. In the suburbs, thanks to Republicans and their code of personal responsibility, the coronary victim will have time to read the entire Gospel of St. Mark before help arrives. There is a message here: if lower taxes are your priority over human life, then we know what sort of person you are. The response to a cry for help says a lot about us as human beings."

POPSColin Farrell tells of 'blessed' life with special needs child “Its mad the way the world works. It's bizarre. I experienced the overwhelming effect of being around those athletes pretty much just before my son was born with special needs. “I have never thought of my son as being someone with a disability. It goes back to special needs and what is a disability and what isn't”.

POPS'Where Was God?' - Refugees Ask the family found a military convoy that helped get them to the convent, which has provided food and medicine to refugees. Thirty tons of supplies have poured into the convent from the Russian Orthodox Church alone. "We are working around the clock," Mother Nonna said. "We drowned in the flood of refugees." Recently washed children's clothing is strewn across the railings outside the convent, which functioned as a summer camp for the Communist youth group during the Soviet era and now includes a special rehabilitation center for children who survived the 2004 terrorist siege of a school in nearby Beslan. Dzara Kumeritova, an assistant at the convent, said that the refugees from South Ossetia all arrived terrified, most of the children too scared to eat for the first day or two. "Somebody slammed the door and the crowd shivered," she said. The article continues... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26206516/

POPSThe 30-Year Old Virgin "People don't think women are funny," she explained in the car. "As a woman, when you walk on stage the audience immediately tightens up. When I start talking about being Arab or Muslim, I think it is something that people are really interested in right now. They say Arabs are the new blacks," she laughed.

POPSMother seeks to have womb of severely disabled daughter, 15, removed http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/10/08/hysterectomy/index.html For the full story. It seems to me that the mother is doing whatever she can to make sure her daughter's life will not be disrupted by a process that she is not likely to understand or even ever use. If the young lady is that severely disabled then she will most likely live at home and never get married or have children, so infringing on her right to reproduce is a moot point.
