POPSclipmarks POP-A-THON: $1 per POP for UNICEF! For every POP this clip gets between now and 10 p.m. Eastern on Halloween 2006, I will give $1 to my nephew's school Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign (up to $200). The POP will cost you nothing, it will cost me a $1. What do you have to lose? Let's help make some internet history by being part of (what I believe is) the first social bookmarking/networking community "POP-A-THON"! Imagine if every clipmarker gave $1 to a charity of choice for every one of their POPs?

POPSThe Girls 'Sexualised' At Age Of Five Researcher Dr Eileen Zurbriggen said that girls as young at four are at risk. "The consequences of the sexualisation of girls in media today are very real and are likely to be a negative influence on girls' healthy development," she said. "As a society, we need to replace all these sexualised images with ones showing girls in positive settings. "The goal should be to deliver messages to all adolescents - boy and girls - that lead to healthy sexual development." Michele Elliot, of child protection charity Kidscape, said: "Bratz dolls are little sexualised creatures which give the wrong message to kids. "Let them be kids. We have got children of 12, 13 and 14 who are ashamed that they haven't had sex yet. They think sex is the be all and end all." A spokesman for Bratz said that children see the dolls as being pretty rather than sexy.

POPSOld news, Good news? Masturbation 'cuts cancer risk' Dr Chris Hiley, head of policy and research at the UK's Prostate Cancer Charity, said "This is a plausible theory." "In the same way the human papillomavirus has been linked to cervical cancer, there is a suggestion that bits of prostate cancer may be related to a sexually transmitted infection earlier in life."

POPSThere are more slaves today... ...than at any other time in history. Twice as many slaves as when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Our Congress just apologized for historical slavery in America, but what about the people in slavery today? I urge you to go to the website www.callandresponse.com and find out ways to respond, ways to act. Here is an opportunity to create hope and change. It isn't called Awarenessism, it's called Activism. Let's act.

POPSGuy rapes a 10 year old, he gets 2 years, serves 10 months. He gave Fenn concurrent two-year and 18-month sentences, but he will be free in eight weeks after serving eight months in prison awaiting sentence. Wright is already free as Judge Hall had already given him a nine-month sentence for inciting the girl to perform a sex act. Dr Michele Elliott, director of Kidscape said the decision had left her "lost for words". She said: "It takes us back to the 1950s when the victim was blamed if they were dressed provocatively. "No one in my opinion could mistake a 10-year-old child, even dressed up, for a 16-year-old. They are just trying very hard to find excuses. "You can never blame a child victim for sexual abuse when excusing the abuser of any kind of abuse." The NSPCC added: "There is no excuse for having sex with a 10-year-old, no matter how she dresses." This guy & his accomplice deserves to be shot. I'm sick and tired of child rapists getting next to nothing for their crimes.

POPSForemost Irish Singer/Songwriter DIES. Read of an exception life This was an exceptional Man. He left school at 11.5 years. He was severely dyslexic. He could not READ nor WRITE with difficulty signing his name. Despite this, he was an exceptionally talented song writer. He had a most unusual voice and was best in duets particularly with his daughter. It was while working as a labourer that he came in contact with asbestos that has now killed him 35 years later. He knew he was dying but thought he had longer. Please go into his site and hear his new single for a flavour of how much poorer we are for his passing. If sufficient interest is shown, I'll post further clips on Christie.

POPS Rush's $2 Million Dollar Donation But Nobody Cares "We’ve gotten donations in the million-dollar range before, but this is by far the biggest,” James Kallstrom, chairman and co-founder of the 12-year-old charity, said yesterday in a telephone interview. The foundation has awarded more than $27 million in scholarships to children of slain troops and law enforcement officers, Kallstrom said, as well as support money for disabled veterans and their families.”

POPSAnd SHE slams Michelle Obama? Why hasn't the media picked up on this and reported it repeatedly for months like they do with every little thing Obama and his wife do or say? If it HAD been Michelle Obama's past, you can bet we'd never hear the end of it.

POPSWhy do displays of compassion differ between East and West?
I am trying to understand A bit more: "In many Asian countries, favors invariably create obligations, which is perhaps why people are sometimes disinclined to interfere in the problems of others. You are obliged to take care of your family, your friends, or even your fellow countrymen. But the idea of universal charity is too abstract, and smacks of the kind of unwelcome interference that Western imperialists — and the Christian missionaries who followed them — practiced in the East for too long. The notion of "Asian values," promoted mostly by Singaporean official scribes, was partly a critique of universalist Western claims. Asians, according to this theory, have their own values, which include thrift, deference to authority, the sacrifice of individual to collective interests, and the belief that countries should not stick their noses into others' affairs. Hence, the hesitant response of Southeast Asian governments — and public opinion — to the Burmese disaster." see source
