POPSCheney to Ukraine: US supports your security How much tension is this hypocritical, armageddonist is going to have a war, to keep he and GW in office, if it means a world war. Putin has to answer this and Dick passes the problem on. Why has he not been impeached?

POPSWarning to Obama on the New Cold War by Tom Hayden
• McCain has traveled to Georgia, nominated his close friend Saakashlivi for a Nobel Prize in 2005, and was the first American leader to blast Russia last April, when Vladimir Putin issued a sharp warning against NATO membership for Georgia and the Ukraine, supported by the United States. • The Bush Administration was divided along familiar lines, with the foreign policy "realists" around Condoleezza Rice opposite the pro-Georgia hawks centered in Dick Cheney's office and allied with McCain--enthusiasts for spreading "democracy" from Iraq to the Russian border. • Randy Scheunemann, McCain's foreign policy adviser, was a registered foreign agent for Saakashlivi's government from at least 2004, when Saakashvili came to power, until May 15, 2008, when he technically severed his ties to Orion Strategies, his lobbying firm. At that point, Orion had earned at least $800,000 in lobbying fees from Georgia. • Saakashvili, with Scheuneman advising him, campaigned on a platform of taking

POPSNo one in "murrika mourns for the "Collaterals" In the spirit of Dr. King, I too have a dream. I have a vision of a Truth Commission in the United States that will create a process of accountability for the war crimes and human rights violations committed by the Bush administration during these past eight years. I see a campaign that will enable our citizens to eventually cast a vote for the principles of the Hague and Geneva Conventions that protect the rights of prisoners of war and of civilian populations. I see a growing movement of citizens empowered to bring Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and others into a process of justice for their commissioning of illegal wiretapping, torturing prisoners, and killing innocent civilians.

POPSIsrael Behind Georgia's Invasion of S. Ossettia This in Israeli press, but not in the U.S. MSM. Of course it was a Hezbollah leader who has exposed this truth and of course will be denounced. But the facts remain true and easily verified. Israel (and the neocons, Cheney had a man in Georgia prior to the war) were behind Georgia's invasion (and murder of civilians) of South Ossetia who declared independence from Georgia over a decade ago. What the Hezbollah leader says (mocking Israel) is true, they stopped Israel's (unjust) war against Lebanon (bombing 70 percent of the country's infrastructure in a "disproportionate response") which was part of a neocon-Israeli plan for a "new middle east". Russia stopped the neocon-Israeli plans for the recapture of Ossetia.

POPSA friend or a crow ?-) "After their experiments on campus, Marzluff and his students tested the effect with more realistic masks. Using a half-dozen students as models, they enlisted a professional mask maker, then wore the new masks while trapping crows at several sites in and around Seattle. The researchers then gave a mix of neutral and dangerous masks to volunteer observers who, unaware of the masks' histories, wore them at the trapping sites and recorded the crows' responses. The reaction to one of the dangerous masks was "quite spectacular," said one volunteer, Bill Pochmerski, a retired telephone company manager who lives near Snohomish. "The birds were really raucous, screaming persistently," he said, "and it was clear they weren't upset about something in general. They were upset with me."

POPSGustav Forces 'Substantial' Changes to RNC Making lemonade from meteorological lemons. Bush and Cheney were both big problems for the RNC this year, being about as popular as athlete's foot. People will be glad to see them elsewhere. The telethon idea reminds me of the blood donor bit from Primary Colors . Still, Gustav demonstrates how sadly unprepared we still are -- there are still people living in FEMA trailers . Let's hope everything goes well for the Gulf States.

POPSNot All "Foreign Policy Experience" Is Created Equal Back in 2000, during a GOP debate, McCain was asked by Larry King, "What area of American international policy would you change immediately as president?" McCain's reply? "I'd institute a policy that I call 'rogue state rollback.' I would arm, train, equip, both from without and from within, forces that would eventually overthrow the governments and install free and democratically-elected governments.... As long as Saddam Hussein is in power, I am convinced that he will pose a threat to our security." In other words, he was a believer in democracy at the end of a loaded gun even before Bush was.

POPSBushco wrote war pitch BEFORE knowing intel National Security Archive reports the Bush-Cheney White paper "justifying" the invasion was developed a full three months in advance of the intelligence data and analysis that should have served as the basis for that justification; then doctored NIE report to agree with their own White Paper. Only imminent threat mentioned was the possibility of Iraqi terrorism in USA if Saddam regime was threatened - but Bushco deleted it before giving the report to Congress.

POPSDemocrats Have '08 Advantage Big time. McClatchy's "Hot Off the Trail" blog reports that this year has all the hallmarks of another '06. Republicans who don't curse the names Bush and Cheney are pretty much clueless. They've destroyed their party for at least two cycles, if not much, much longer. It's a party in political rehab.

POPSJuan Cole on Biden: he reads journals!! "It struck me as the sort of thing that should happen in our democracy every day-- you write something in your specialty, and your elected representative calls you to talk about it. No lobbies, think tanks, etc. involved." That's high praise! Imagine having a VP informed by people who've given their lives to studying these issues, rather than people trying to angle for more money. Contrast it, for instance, with Cheney's energy policy crew of rich industry insiders.

POPSUnderstanding the "Predator State" Full of thought-provoking analysis of how corporate America gained control of government. Lots to think about here. Looks like a must-blog piece. The clip is only intro to the good stuff.

POPSAmerica in the World: Silenced by Bush Such Bushian doublespeak, expressed with total "sincerity," has regrettably defined America's relationship with our fellow human beings in this new century. As a result, even US critics of the administration's policies are reluctant to condemn aggression by other countries because they do not want to be accused of what the Bush regime, worldwide, will perhaps be most remembered for -- hypocrisy.
