POPSDon't Underestimate Governor Palin President George W. Bush called the pick “exciting” and said Palin “is a proven reformer who is a wise steward of taxpayer dollars and champion for accountability in government.” Considered a rising political star by state Republican leaders, she was appointed in 2003 to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, a significant body in the energy-rich state. While on the commission, Palin led an ethics investigation of another member, state Republican Chairman Randy Ruedrich, who was accused of conflicts of interest involving oil companies.

POPSWhatever happened to family values? How is this not all hypocritical of the Republicans. I don't get how now it is ok to be teen & pregnant and what about the more pressing issues our country is going through - economy, dependence on foreign oil, global-warming, health care?

POPSLogicSaysUnigender ParentsNow Off Table Sudden reversal on left disparages earlier "Two Daddys" glorification. It will be hard for many of them, I'm sure, but I'm confident they will honorably step forward with testimonials and recantations regarding their previously hard-fought campaign to portray stay-at-home mothers as relics of days gone by; of the mother's brand of nurturing being of no importance unique from a man's.

POPSSarah Palin - Politics More Important Then Children
I was shocked when Sarah Palin accepted the Republican VP nomination. While I am a staunch believe in a woman's ability to do anything, we also have to be realistic about the needs of our children. First, I was appalled that a) Ms. Palin got on an 8 hour plane ride AFTER she started leaking amniotic fluid. That was totally irresponsible. I don't care WHAT medical resources were available on that plane, a plane is no substitute for a hospital with a neo-natal unit. Ms. Palin already knew that she was having a special needs baby - I find it incomprehensible that she would be so reckless as to take such a foolish risk. Second, Trig is less then six months old and has Down Syndrome. The time parents spend with a child during infancy is crucial to the child's development, and even more so with a child that has challenges. While Ms. Palin probably could give Trig adequate nurturing and do her job as Governor, now since she is also running for VP, there will be NO time for thi

POPSGet To Know Tim Pawlenty Speculation is that he's the man for McCain. Looks to be a solid but not very exciting pick. He does have more experience that Obama, and would be the only candidate in the race that isn't a US senator and who has executive experience. From what I can tell, this guy would help more than hurt McCain, but I don't think he would have a major impact either way right away. Looks like he would be a safe pick that could put Minnesota into play, but not an exciting pick like Alaska's Sarah Palin or Oklahoma's Dr. No Tom Coburn or even Joe Lieberman (not that I think he would be a good pick, but he would be exciting).

POPSPowerMall Debate So, my dear friend, forgive me for not heeding your word of warning. Because you see, my family comes first, what kind of person would I be, if I gave my "time" to strangers, when "my family" are the one's needing my "time". I am not selfish and do not want anyone to suffer, I do what I can, for whom I can, whenever the need arises. I will continue to show my concern, and be of help. I will also continue to find the right people who believe that "together, "we can" make a difference in the world we live in". Even if our world only reaches as far as our own back yard...it makes no difference to "Him"..., just as long as we do something.....

POPSChildren for sale Child abus is endemic and should be stamped out. This investigation in Australia reinforces convictions that everyone involved in child crime, and here I include those politicians who want to remove child protection matters by the reduction of the age of sexual consent, should be given no leniency at all. There can be no mitigation when the damage done to all innocent families is so extensive.

POPSCradle of maternity in the brain discovered The study also showed that a partial restoration of Pet-1 function in the developing brain of females partially restored their serotonin levels, and maternal behaviour in adulthood. The finding indicated that subtle changes in the embryonic formation of the brain serotonin system in females could impact the quality of the maternal care they later provide for their offspring. The researchers say that future studies with Pet-1 deficient mothers may help to further elucidate the link between serotonin and maternal behaviour, and lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches for treatment of post-partum depression and child neglect.

POPSThe Feral Child She weighed 46 pounds. She was malnourished and anemic. In the pediatric intensive care unit they tried to feed the girl, but she couldn't chew or swallow solid food. So they put her on an IV and let her drink from a bottle. Aides bathed her, scrubbed the sores on her face, trimmed her torn fingernails. They had to cut her tangled hair before they could comb out the lice. Her caseworker determined that she had never been to school, never seen a doctor. She didn't know how to hold a doll, didn't understand peek-a-boo. "Due to the severe neglect," a doctor would write, "the child will be disabled for the rest of her life." Hunched in an over sized crib, Danielle curled in on herself like a potato bug, then writhed angrily, kicking and thrashing. To calm herself, she batted at her toes and sucked her fists. "Like an infant," one doctor wrote.

POPSRich vs. Poor Poor people spend more time in leisure activities. Here's another spin on this article: maybe that's the reason they're poor? They don't work as hard to achieve, so they don't?

POPSThe Infamous Bail-out Of Fannie and Freddie
The R Party has contended for 30 years that anything appearing to slant towards socialism is EVIL. Feed a hungry child "NO THAT'S SOCIALISM". Universal Health Care "NO THAT'S SOCIALIZED MEDICINE, I want no part of that". The "R" Party's mantra is a loud MAKE GOV. SO SMALL YOU CAN DROWN IT IN A BATHTUB. But when it comes to Corp. bail-outs, which is another name for Corporate Socialism QUICK PULL THAT GOV-GUY OUT OF THE TUB AND APPLY CPR... It's enough to blow your mind! I've put together some TV clips and article excerpts to illustrate the hypocrisy of our gov. A saga of the U.S. Bail-out of 2 mortgage giants Freddie & Fannie. I guess the SHOW MUST GO ON. Next time you hear an "R" person yodel "IT'S NOT OUR DUTY TO HELP THE POOR", and "WE WON'T STAND FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE". Tell them to think about all the Big Bucks our gov. has spent bailing out the Fat Cats and see if they will then say "Socialism is a dirty word, it's EVIL!". Yeah, right, but only if you're POOR.

POPS New York's Bravest Mourn Lost Brooklyn Firefighter A Brooklyn firehouse that lost five members on 9/11 is again mourning the loss of one of its own today, this one tragically killed while on vacation with his family. NY1’s Amanda Farinacci filed the following report. A flag hangs at half-staff and a bunting waved today outside the quarters of Ladder 111 Engine 214 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, days after 41-year-old firefighter Martin Simmons drowned trying to rescue his son while on vacation in Nevada. “Marty was what we call a premier firefighter in this company,” said firefighter Joe Honan. “He was almost one of the senior guys. He was a guy that took no trouble running things.”

POPSThe Golden Rule and the Separation of Church and State by Rev. Michael Helms, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia. In Franklin County, Idaho, the Mormon population is 91.5 percent. In Utah County, Utah, it is 88.1 percent. If your job transferred you to one of these counties and you sent your child to a public school, would you object if the teacher began class by reading from the Book of Mormon each day? Well, obviously not if you are Mormon. If you are of any other religion or none at all, chances are good you would object.
