POPSThought Police It is official, 'citizen' is just the new slang for 'slave'. The thought police are no longer hiding in the shadows, we have let them take control of every aspect of our lives. This is shocking. They may claim that we live in democracies, but liberty is almost dead.

POPSIllegal Immigrants Too Long on ICE The people talked about in this report are accused of breaking immigration regulations but are not felons. We should be able to process these people's cases without putting them in jail with felons for months and months - We'd expect that for an American citizen illegal in France or Germany - would we not?

POPSPushing for Change in Counter-terrorism Policy Pushing "change" from policies of over-reaction: Two 12-minute podcasts and a conference to change US government under the Obama administration on counter-terrorism policies, including issues of war and domestic civil liberties with the Constitution in mind. The purpose of terrorism is both over-reaction and fear, so why has US policy fomented both? Just who is "changing our way of life", but the government itself?

POPSACLU Says NorthCom’s Fighting Unit May Be Illegal (c0nt.)“This is a radical departure from separation of civilian law enforcement and military authority and could, quite possibly, represent a violation of law,” said Mike German, ACLU national security policy counsel. “Our Founding Fathers understood the threat that a standing army could pose to American liberty.”

POPS"Court Declares Part of the Patriot Act 'Unconstitutional'" continues: Because of the ruling, the government will now be forced to justify individual gag orders before a court, instead of casually wielding the power of a blanket gag as the Bush administration has done since the blindingly fast passage of the Patriot Act in Oct. 2001.

POPSBush’s Backward Sprint To The Finish (in depth report) LABOR - Allowing truckers to work 14 hour days - Requiring labor unions to file extensive financial reports - Making it harder to regulate toxic substances on the job - Stripping collective bargaining rights from federal employees - Relaxing rules on investment adviser conflicts of interest - Revising H-2A visa rules to lower wages and encourage exploitation

POPSBush sneaks laws to undermine Obama Public health and safety be damned. Bush is paying back industry leaders for their support during his terms and he is still "leaving office with a clear conscience:. One rule will make it easier for coal companies to dump debris from strip mining into valleys and streams. Another will allow power companies to build coal-fired power stations nearer to national parks. Another will allow coal-fired stations to increase their emissions without installing new anti-pollution equipment. One lengthens the number of hours that truck drivers can drive without rest Another surrenders government control of rerouting the rail transport of hazardous materials around densely populated areas and gives it to the rail companies. A common theme is shifting regulation of industry from government to the industries themselves, essentially promoting self-regulation. And we have all seen how well that worked with the banking industry.

POPSCivil Rights Struggle Continues for the Homeless On Saturday, Dec. 6, HUFF and supporters will host a “sleep-out” in symbolic protest of the ordinances and unfair treatment of homeless residents at the Human Rights Fair at the Louden Nelson Community Center. “The problem is you have a bunch of people who are a part of the Democratic Party who persuade themselves they are very liberal,” Norse said. “They vote for Obama, they are in favor of getting out of Iraq, they are members of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union), but when it comes to the local issue of poverty and poor people, they are as bad as the Republicans.”

POPSMumbai Attacks: "India's 9/11", Who Was Behind It? Must hear this podcast before the official story, and response, take hold. There is great evidence to suspect many other parties besides Paki Islamic extremists in the headlines. Labeling it as "India's 9/11" suggests (and is being suggested by a conservative political wing there) copying the American response to 9/11, making war upon suspect countries or groups without evidence and creating a Homeland Security state and legislation that Indians had recently overturned and rejected. CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING TO UNDERSTANDING THE EVENT, AND TO HELP ESTABLISH MOTIVE AND PERPETRATORS. Excellent round-table with good analysis here , by the first guest in particular, that questions the "9/11 status" (and what that is intended to mean) and who was behind the Mumbai attacks, at Democracy Now video (use this link here) . Fast-forward to the 16:00 minute mark. Terrorism is used to change governments too.

POPSWhat's A Posse Comitatus? And before people jump the Obama gun, this is happening right now, Dec. 2 2008: President George W. Bush. Question is will Obama continue the program? The dangers of standing armies exist regardless of who is in the White House. Once they have the power they will not give it up.

POPSPentagon Moves to Deploy Martial Law Troops Homeland Tyranny preparations contrary to Posse Comitatus which forbids the use of military for domestic policing. Again the 9/11-fear based plea of "necessity" is the cry. Will Obama reverse this plan? No. Paranoia rules policy: "9/11 changed everything", especially our liberties. It's a pretext for control and to strengthen the federal government over the states.

POPSPentagon reserves troops for domestic emergencies I feel safer already. Please excuse my snarkiness, but since my trust in Bush's reasoning has been shaken (by just about everything he does) I get just a little concerned when the military begins beefing up their numbers in the name of 'domestic security'. I want to believe the Pentagon is looking out for our best interests but I can't help thinking they know something we don't and won't tell us. If the U.S. is attacked it would be good to already have more security available but I can't shake the admitted paranoid feeling that something big is waiting just around the bend. And I don't think it is going to be welcomed.
