Toy Robot Intended to Save Humans
balthazarus
by balthazarus  Today 6:13 AM
This narrative, crafted by Hugo award winner Tony Daniel and University of Texas performance professor Thomas Riccio, is intended to make Zeno into a character that people identify with and want to to see develop — something with the depth of a movie character or a figure from a Homerian epic. That makes Zeno into as much of a sociological experiment as it is a technical marvel or fun toy. "The idea is to create a cultural phenomenon and accelerate the use and humanization of the technology," Where story, game, reality, toys are not differentiable anymore.

Intelligent Computers Put To The Test
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  10-5-2008
It could also raise profound questions about whether a computer has the potential to be 'conscious' - and if humans should have the 'right' to switch it off. >>> I haven't seen humans having too much problem in 'shutting off' each other. What does it say about consciousness ?

OSHO: LOVE and HATE are ONE
Michael Black
by Michael Black  10-5-2008
What happened to love? Everybody is looking for love, but the world is full of hate. With love something very drastic has happened. This OSHO TALK goes deep into the psychological understanding how our authenticity about love was spoiled. - Never judge anybody by his act, because the real thing is not the act but the consciousness through which that act has been performed.

Turing test, put to test next week.
balthazarus
by balthazarus  10-5-2008    5
"I think the reason Alan Turing set this game up was that maybe to him consciousness was not that important; it's more the appearance of it, and this test is an important aspect of appearance.' "The test will be carried out by human 'interrogators', each sitting at a computer with a split screen: one half will be operated by an unseen human, the other by a program. The interrogators will then begin separate, simultaneous text-based conversations with both of them on any subjects they choose. After five minutes they will be asked to judge which is which." "a program needs only to make 30 per cent or more of the interrogators unsure of its identity to be deemed as having passed the test, based on Turing's own criteria"

Why We Can't Imagine Death?
einbar
by einbar  10-4-2008    3
"This position holds that our ancestors suffered the unshakable illusion that their minds were immortal, and it’s this hiccup of gross irrationality that we have unmistakably inherited from them. Individual human beings, by virtue of their evolved cognitive architecture, had trouble conceptualizing their own psychological inexistence from the start."

Foreign Murderer release on British streets
notareargunner
by notareargunner  10-4-2008
Is Jacqui Spliff still on duty, or has she joined the Nu Lieber Party to welcome the Prince of Darkness back to the trough? Not only have they lost all moral consciousness, but their brazen disregard of the historic position of public representative and the covenant they have with the British people leads one to think we ought to just leave on mass, and let them all fester in their own stupidity. Deport this murderer now and investigate everyone who has had any association with him. The Government have not the will to deport him because it will infringe on his families human rights. No concession has been made to the rights of Mr Phillip Lawrence, his family or the people of Gt. Britain. Labour really are cowards and worse then doggy pooh (shit to you and me).

Is It Possible To Have An 'Out-of-Body' Experience?
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  9-28-2008    7
"Death is not a specific moment," he says. "It is a process..." "... a period of time, which may last from a few seconds to an hour or more, in which medical efforts may succeed in restarting the heart and reversing the dying process. What people experience during this period provides a unique window into what we are all likely to experience during the dying process." Clip Song

B.I.T.C.H. Condemns Sarah Palin
cptenaud
by cptenaud  9-17-2008    1
continued from article............... Fortunately, I have the gift of discerning coy sins less careful Christians — and my inattentive Savior — routinely overlook. And as founder of Bringing Integrity To Christian Homemakers, one sin pings my values radar louder than an incoming sortie of foul smelling demons: Narcissistic parents who irresponsibly spit out babies they have neither the interest nor time to care about. That’s the problem with people who regard birth as simply the end of a pregnancy, rather than the beginning of a life. Birth marks the start of work, not a self-congratulatory furlough. Absent through either a preoccupation with stoking a ravenous blast furnace of an ego (Mrs. Palin) or simply because they’d rather be fishing (Mr. Palin), the Palins selfishly make a shambles of their children’s lives. Drugs, sex, alcohol, vendetta’s and arrests! Honestly, it all sounds a bit like Gossip Girl, only in a pioneer setting with a wardrobe by Sears.
