POPSShroud Stirs A New Controversy It's like looking for Noah's Ark to me. Why would you want to search when the truth is right here before you? Regardless of that, I'm awed and amazed by the story.

POPSIce Volcanoes of Titan May Habor Life For almost thirty years, scientists have known that complex carbon compounds called tholins exist on comets and in the atmospheres of the outer planets. Theoretically, tholins might interact with water in a process called hydrolysis to produce complex molecules similar to those found on the early Earth. Could tholins formed in Titan's atmosphere react with liquid water temporarily exposed by meteor impacts or ice volcanoes to produce potentially prebiotic complex organic molecules — before the water freezes? Laboratory research by Catherine Neish, a graduate student working on her doctorate in planetary science at the University of Arizona, suggests, not without controversy, however, that, over a period of days, compounds similar to tholins can be react with water at near-freezing temperatures.

POPSObama's Hillbilly Half-Brother Threatening To Derail Campaig Since Cooter's emergence on the national scene, the Obama campaign has downplayed the brothers' relationship. A statement issued last week by Obama's top adviser, David Axelrod, claimed that the two lived together only for a brief period in 1981, shortly before Barack left to attend Columbia University and Cooter had to drop out of chicken-killing school because an air conditioner fell on his head. "I thought we would be able to escape controversy by leaving the country for a week and visiting Iraq and Europe," an unnamed source in the Obama camp told reporters. "Little did we know that Cooter would command just as much attention back home by getting drunk with the Russian ambassador, lighting off fireworks, and crashing Obama's campaign limo into a creek in the Ozark Mountains."

POPSAmerica Finally Getting Sick and Tired of Hearing About Barack Obama
They aren’t talking about the fact that it was Obama who first trotted out the race card by suggesting we’d all be scared into submission by Republican assertions that Obama didn’t “look like all those other guys on the dollar bills.” As even more complete picture of the candidate begins to emerge, the number of Americans expressing doubt about Obama increases. In the Illinois State Senate Obama sponsored bills to provide universal health care coverage, drastically increase welfare, handcuff the police and burden them with administrative overhead, make it more difficult and time consuming for law-abiding citizens to purchase lawfully-regulated firearms for self-defense and generally expand government, welfare, affirmative action and other entitlement programs. By all accounts, Ms. Hilton’s energy policy, is in fact, more comprehensive than Obama’s, which focuses almost exclusively on the development of petroleum alternatives, tune-ups and tire pressure checks.

POPSTheistic Sanity It's not often that I agree with religious leaders but when I do it deserves to be pointed out. The point that Benedict makes of refuting the claim that evolution promotes atheism is of course correct. Although many, particularly in the States, believe otherwise. Unfortunately, the persons that fall into this category are also people that are the least informed on the subject.

POPSHorrors! Olympics: Controversy In Iran Over Female Flag Carrier Whoever is responsible for this unforgivable act, he should know that this gesture constitutes an obstacle for the 'appearance' of Mahdi," said Elmalhoda. He was referring to the mainly Shia Islam belief that imam Mohammed al-Mahdi will appear to fight a final apocalyptic battle over the forces of evil. Followers believe he was born in the year 868 and has been in hiding ever since awaiting a decision from god to reappear. from Adnkronos International, August 8:

POPSRichard Dawkins branded 'secularist bigot' by veteran philosopher
"The fault of Dawkins as an academic was his scandalous and apparently deliberate refusal to present the doctrine which he appears to think he has refuted in its strongest form." He says there are five references to Einstein in the index to The God Delusion, but no mention of his belief that the complexity of physics led him to conclude that there must be a divine intelligence behind it. "An academic attacking some ideological position which he believes to be mistaken must of course attack that position in its strongest form. This Dawkins does not do in the case of Einstein and his failure is the crucial index of his insincerity of academic purpose and therefore warrants me in charging him with having become, what he has probably believed to be an impossibility, a secularist bigot." He went on: "The whole enterprise of The God Delusion was not, as it at least pretended to be, an attempt to discover and spread knowledge of the existence or non-existence of God but rather an att

POPSMore on NASA's "Life on Mars" Controversy -What's Your Bet? Perchlorates are the salts that are derived from perchloric acid, and are found naturally on Earth, in such places as Chile’s hyper-arid Atacama Desert. The compound is stable, according to NASA’s press release, and does not destroy organic material under standard circumstances. In fact, some microorganisms on Earth are fueled by processes that involve perchlorates. But most importantly to the discovery on Mars, is that perchlorates are oxidants, in other words, they can release oxygen.

POPSSnakes reveal deadly fang secrets Rather than develop independently, as some had argues, evidence suggests that the jaw and venom developed, and then fang position evolved as the fangs began to move around on the jaw, the different placements being a likely response to the types of prey or predators that shared the snakes' environments.

POPSBush's Racist Police Buddies Taser Black Actor in 'W'. Stone's film on the life of the US president has aroused fascination and anticipation among many, and Bush supporters are bracing for an unflattering portrayal of the president. Previous Stone biopics on Richard Nixon and John F Kennedy were the targets of critical praise as well as controversy. Shreveport remains a bastion of American conservatism, raising questions about whether politics fuelled the aggression during the arrest of Brolin and Wright. Shreveport police chief Henry Whitehorn has confirmed that police are reviewing audio and video of the incident and will submit the case to the city prosecutor's office for possible prosecution of the actors.

POPSNew You By 2018 Therapeutic: Cloning for tissue replacement is already happening, as stem cells have successfully grown new heart tissues in patients. Researchers believe replacing muscle, bone, skin; even neurons, teeth, eyes, and other organs could be in beginning stages by 2018. Augmentation: Procedures expected to be in place by as early as 2015 include improved memory recall, simultaneous language translation, long range and microscopic vision on demand, wide spectrum hearing, distinctive voice projection, and stronger muscles. And by mid-to-late-2020s, “nanobots” monitoring each of our cells could keep us ageless and forever healthy. Designed Evolution: These could include memory, intelligence, speed, agility, and other behavioral and physical attributes. Eliminating undesired genes that might pre-dispose a child to cancer, heart disease or alcoholism could be possible by about 2015.

POPSDakota Fanning's Sundance Rape Scene Good for Dakota for defending this movie. I believe it is utterly absurd to say this a scene, a non-explicit scene in a movie is child pornography. On top of that to make the claim that A) Ms. Fanning was abused, and B) 12 year olds cant makes "these types of decisions" is ludicrous. The child star says it better than anyone when she points out its just a film, its just acting. No one is getting hurt here, If you don't like the film, don't watch it. This is a typical example of controversy for the sake of controversy.

POPS"Zorba the Israeli" His most famous book, "Zorba the Greek," was published in 1946. Its appearance in English in the United States, in 1954, made its author a runaway success that exposed him to the rest of the world. Zorbas became an adored figure in Western culture, and his prescription for life, passions and animal instincts were idealized. He came to represent all of Greek culture. Kazantzakis wrote many books. "The Last Temptation of Christ" roused a storm of controversy when it appeared. (the film version of the book was released, directed by Martin Scorsese with a soundtrack composed by Peter Gabriel.) "It's the combination of the landscape and the people," Melzer a former philosophy professor says "Greeks have an endless ability to be happy, and we Israelis can only learn from them."
