POPSUkranian PM Tymoshenko on political crisis I wanted, firstly, to separate clearly powers between the Government and President as the Constitution envisages and not to do so that there are three governments, six Premiers in the country and all govern and nobody exercises responsibility.

POPSFed's Yellen: Crisis "ongoing and perhaps deepening"
Second, export growth alone contributed one-half of the total real GDP growth registered in the second quarter. This element has been an important source of strength in our economy for over a year, being buoyed by strong growth abroad and by the weakening of the dollar. However, as I discussed, in recent months the dollar has risen somewhat and economic growth in many of our industrialized trading partners has slowed or even turned negative, suggesting that we can no longer count on exports as an important source of strength. Third, the problems in the housing markets, financial markets, and labor markets continue to be a drag on growth and employment. Fortunately, the recent fall in commodity prices should help to cushion some of this downward pressure on activity. Overall, I anticipate that real GDP growth in the second half of this year will come in below the growth of potential output which implies that the unemployment rate will rise. On its own, this obviously is not good new

POPSYour Pocket Guide to Speaking Palin-guage (Vol.1) If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick." If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude." A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information." And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's recurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK. Just learned a new one: IOKIYAR: It's OK if you're a Republican!

POPSUS Teen Suicide Rate Rising Take away the meds from kids and this is what happens. Yet the reason for keeping kids away from psychiatric medication persists however absurd it might be. And the reasons are absurd. If a teenager had a malfunctioning liver, only religious weirdos would say to keep the child off the medication. But when a child's brain malfunctions and there is is a medication that can help, many people cry foul and become suspicious. Why? We are only talking about organs of the body. Just as yellowing skin can be a symptom of a malfunctioning liver, so depression can be a symptom of a malfunctioning brain. The meds can save lives.

POPSJoe Biden, Change We Can Drink To! About Biden’s obnoxious and public displays of drunkenness… …If this is how he acts ON CAMERA when campaigning, imagine what might go on behind closed doors when he’s truly under pressure, like for instance, in the Oval Office during a crisis… And as Team Obama takes aim at Sarah Palin for being a national security lightweight, more and more people are finding that charge to be hypocritical. First off, Obama himself (ya know, the candidate at the TOP of the ticket) has ZERO foreign policy creds. And now it’s becoming increasingly apparent that his VP choice is a lightweight in more ways than one. Don’t you think it’s a little more important for the media to unearth whether Biden has an alcohol problem, than to worry about Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter and whether she is pregnant or not? http://theconservativepost.com/WordPress/?p=540

POPSRussian praises EU over sanctions This is a perfect example of why we shouldn't care what others think of us (US in this case). Because as this example clearly shows - the others are mostly... what's that English expression relevant in this case...??? Oh yeah - it's Chicken S**t.

POPSWe DO Need More Domestic Energy...BUT... Bush is absolutely right (I can't believe I'm saying that) - we absolutely do need to focus on more domestic energy production to reduce and ultimately eliminate out reliance on the Middle East. He's absolutely wrong however (now that's more like it) when he says we need to get that additional domestic energy by drilling for more oil off-shore. Pretty much all major scientific research - and even a great deal of the public - agree oil is not the answer to our energy crisis. There is only so much oil and any additional drilling will be far outnumbered by the increase in usage that will have occurred when we finally get that new oil online. Could drilling for new oil help lower gas/fuel prices? Sure it could temporarily. But that would only slightly delay the inevitable. We NEED to reduce our energy consumption until we can find alternative and more abundant sources of clean energy to meet our needs.

POPSGustav Halts Democratic Attack Machine When Republicans announced that they would curb their convention activities, Democrats followed suit and cancelled a media walk-through of its spin center scheduled for Sunday night. In addition, Monday’s briefing at the “More of the Same Media Center” was also called off. However, Democrats at their response center across the street from the convention site continue to monitor the Republican gathering, ready to go into attack mode as soon as the convention returns to its original schedule.

POPSUN: Georgians Effectively Blocked from Homes On Saturday, Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a member of the chamber's foreign relations committee, visited Gori to observe the distribution of U.S. food aid. Asked whether the United States was considering new military aid, Corker said "these subjects are part of a longer and mid-term discussion" when Congress reconvenes in September. Russia supplies the EU with about a third of its oil and about two-fifths of its natural gas. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said European nations should adopt a united energy policy to avoid becoming too dependent on Russia. He said the EU nations should "use our collective bargaining power." "Without urgent action we risk sleepwalking into an energy dependance on less stable or reliable partners," Brown wrote in The Observer newspaper. Brown said he spoke with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev by telephone Saturday, and told the Russian leader "to expect a determined European response" to the crisis.

POPSShould Biden Share Blame for Foreclosure Crisis? Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) “is directly responsible for the rising foreclosure rate since the end of 2005,” concluded a 2007 study by Credit Suisse. The law “increased foreclosures and the number of homes for sale,” echoed a July 2008 study by U.S. Treasury researcher David Bernstein. That study estimated the law had pushed foreclosures or forced sales on 200,000 homeowners since it went into effect, but noted that was a rough, “back-of-the-envelope” calculation… The bill was backed by banks and credit card companies including MBNA, which is headquartered in Delaware, Biden’s home state. MBNA executives had been Biden’s single largest source of campaign donations, and MBNA has employed Biden’s son Hunter as a company executive, lobbyist and consultant. The Obama campaign has said Hunter Biden did no work for MBNA on the bankruptcy bill. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5670703&page=1
