POPSMan accused of Letterman Kidnap escapes from jail this is really messed up-i remember really following this story a couple of years ago-- as a parent of a young child kidnapping freaks me out more than anything- and knowing that this guy ESCAPED means he's clearly not rehabilitated.

POPS Arrogance Watch Elevating the issue of Obama's arrogance two or three notches higher, Dana Milbank writes in Wednesday's Washington Post: Fresh from his presidential-style world tour, during which foreign Obama settled down to some presidential-style business in Washington Then, he went up to Capitol Hill to be adored by House Democrats in a presidential-style pep rally. Along the way, he traveled in a bubble more insulating than the actual president's. Traffic was shut down for him as he zoomed about town in a long, presidential-style motorcade, while the public and most of the press were kept in the dark about his activities, which included a fundraiser at the Mayflower where donors paid $10,000 or more to have photos taken with him.

POPSGag me The reason they aren't writing jokes is summed up in what Stewart said, "So far, our take is that he is positioning himself to be on a coin". They are so in the tank for Obama. At least they are honest. What puzzles me is that they must know by now he doesn't have any new ideas. He doesn't have any friends that he won't throw under a bus. He, as it turns out, is just another politician who thinks he can get away with saying one thing to one audience, another to another and then deny he ever said or took any position. This guy is not even slick about it and in this day and age EVERYTHING is on video. But everyone is giving him a pass. And for what. SO that we can have Carter part II. JEesh!

POPSCroc Hunter's daughter Bindi on a whirlwind US tour What an incredible line up of appearances for little Bindi Irwin -- she is truly a marvel to watch. When asked by Ellen about her recently deceased father Steve she said: "I feel like I'm him. All over ... I want him to be proud of me"

POPSMcCain gaffes pile up; critics pile on McCain's mistakes raise a serious, if uncomfortable question: Are the gaffes the result of his age? And what could that mean in the Oval Office? Voters, thinking about their own relatives, can be expected to scrutinize McCain’s debate performances for signs of slippage

POPSMcCain "Death of Iraqis due to war? In the Hundreds of Thousands" Either McCain has no clue what he's talking about. Which is a very distinct possibility if anyone's been following his gaffes on what's actually taking place in the Mid-East ...... or ...... much of what the lunatic rightwing holds onto, as ridiculously low numbers of Iraqi deaths due to Bush's reckless war based on lies, is propaganda

POPSRegis Philbin- bypass surgery- informing his loyal fans i must admit- although i rarely catch this show- the banter between Regis & Kelly is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine- i think Regis is really a stand up guy -- i like that he was upfront w/ his audience and informed them of his health issues. I think it was David Letterman that said this once- but it was something about--- Regis being the closest thing to an oldschool entertainer... i hope he does well w/ his surgery

POPSNational Priorities When I clipped this story from Google News it was one of 42 others. David Letterman's return to the air in the midst of the writer's strike contained 742 news stories. I worry deeply about this country. Judged on implications to the future of this country the story about healthcare wins hands down but the gossip mongers (I refuse to call them journalists) realize who pays their salary. Without grassroots support this situation won't change.

POPSLetterman Sidekick Paul Shaffer Writing Memoir Celebrity memoirs are a dime a dozen, but Shaffer's tome could prove to be a fun read. He's best known as David Letterman's sidekick, knowingly swapping lame lines to make his boss look good. But he's also got amazing connections throughout the music industry, having backed countless musical guests on Letterman, serving as musical director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies and playing on recording sessions for Robert Plant, Yoko Ono, Marshall Crenshaw and many others. He also played keyboards for the house band on Saturday Night Live during that show's early years. More good news -- Shaffer's book will be co-written by David Ritz, who co-authored Ray Charles' must-read autobiography Brother Ray, penned a definitive biography on Marvin Gaye and has collaborated with a long list of other musical figures on their memoirs. - Louis Hau
